The lastest version of the 2.6.16.x stable kernel series is available on amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net. Patches are available, too. Support for the SmartFileSystem is in compiled as module.

MoL packages (v0.9.72) for this kernel are available under amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/MoL/2.6.16/. Users of the 2.6.8 kernel can use the packages under amigaone-linux.sourceforge.net/MoL/2.6.8/.

"Pole".

Thanks for this. I like that word stable so i can install it ;)

EDIT:
As you know i installed the kernel on wrong partition. Over os4 system ;)
Luck i had backup. Its the second time i do something like that. Im too fast.
Anyway. I installed the kernel and modules and could update to etch. Works ok:)

Just have to test my problem freeze on loading all drivers while having anything plugged into amigaone's usb ports like midiinterface or mobilephone.

@Geri

I can report that the screen corruption still happens under X11 with this kernel.
I also have had a hard lock up of my machine the first session with this kernel when downloading updates in synaptic. It's a A1SE using the onboard ethernet port and a SiI IDE PCI card for hard disk.

greets,
Staf.

@Fats

Can you post the kernel and X.org log?

@Geri

I have a partition set up that's readable by both Linux and OS4 so I can transfer files between them. The last time I tried to use it in Linux it wouldn't let me mount it.

Would the new kernel have anything to do with that? It was working fine before I updated to this kernal (I'm using Debian Sarge for this kernel).

@RacerX

You mean the filesystem is writeable by both Linux and OS4, right? Which filesystem does the partition use?

Yup. It's 'affs'.

Now when I try to mount it, it pops up an error window saying "unknown filesystem 'affs' ". But it worked before. I could read/write to it from either Linux or OS4. I just tried it. It still works fine under OS4.

I also tried it earlier today with kernel 2.6.16.57 and Debian Lenny, same error message.

I'm pretty sure I didn't change etc/fstab lately.

Strange! I'll take a look at it as soon as possible. Although I wonder what may have changed in the filesystem driver.

UPDATE.
Duh. Run 'update-modules'. Never had to do that before .16.x. Going back to my Happy Place...

@Geri
I have been using kernel 2.6.16.35 binary with updated/upgraded Etch packages. When module status is requested, e.g., using 'lsmod' or 'modprobe', an error is generated:
lsmod: QM_MODULES: Function not implemented
modprobe: QM_MODULES: Function not implemented

A note is also generated (also showing on boot screen):
Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.6.16.60-g6f68a68f/modules.dep

This is also occuring in .60. Please advise as to cause (due to Note?) and cure.

@DL

Did you install the lastest version of module-init-tools?

@Fats

Does it work, if you run the X server without the UseFBDev option in xorg.conf?

@Geri

Are the patch files required in the installation? If so, where do they go?

No, the patch files are not needed.

Now when I try to mount it, it pops up an error window saying "unknown filesystem 'affs' ". But it worked before. I could read/write to it from either Linux or OS4. I just tried it. It still works fine under OS4.

I can access my FFS DOS/3 partition without any problems from Linux (readable and writeable). Maybe you can revalidate the partition with something like turboval? What about the access right of the folders, files, etc? (OS4 ignores them, but Linux not)

I get a kernel panic... starting with "illegal vector 255" or something like that. I remember having it in a previous version too.

I get a kernel panic... starting with "illegal vector 255" or something like that. I remember having it in a previous version too.

Ouch! Another SE user reported this problem too, but I never found out what triggers it. Linux developer normally say it's a faulty hardware problem.
