I have been playing with fs-uae for a few days now and have completely fallen in love with it. I like it better than winuae because I can make little launchers with a specific setup script for each game that I want to run. It's got a retro cool little overlay that looks like my old 1084.. a very nice render.

Here's my setup. I'm running Linux Mint 14. The Amiga there is actually a folder that contains the launchers. I made each icon the box cover of the game. The bottom right is fs-uae running Monkey Island perfectly. Hit F12 and you get a slick little interface to work with. I highly recommend this little emulator.

Wow - looks good! I'll have to try this out. Just curious, have you tried a full screen mode, and/or full screen with multi-monitors? I had a heck of a time getting any kind of Linux emulation working with multi-monitors.

Edit: I should clarify - all I'm trying to do is get one screen full, while the other either goes blank, or just shows it's normal desktop. What I always ended up with it a centered image (across both monitors)

@jabeck

I haven't tried it on dual monitors. I did get that working with winuae just like what you are talking about. I used an old crt for my second monitor. I can't remember how I did it exactly.

Fullscreen mode is what I've been running in by default. I just wanted to show what it looked like (the folder and launchers). I think my laptop (the machine it's running on) does 50khz because it seems very smooth. I like that the overlay is made for the new widescreen monitors but the emulator runs inside the 4:3 screen. :)

I like the amiga icon!!!. Is it custom made, or is available on the net?

I found the icon online. Someone had cut it out into a png like that for his blog and I swiped it.

I've been using Mint since v11 and I love it. I have one of those beefy System 76 laptops that I run it on. I'm very happy with it. Just add dconf and customize it out the way you want.

@tommywright

I also run Linux Mint 14 and found this version of UAE last month and although the launcher hasn't got all of the options E-UAE has I find it friendlier to use. Best if all F12 brings up options and allows you to exit full screen mode like WinUAE, I could never get out of full screen in the other Linux UAE's

It's the image at the top of this site...

For me, half the fun is finding all the images for icons. The box art was awesome back then. :)

The image could have done with some down-scaling for web site purposes, but ok

It does look good. Very good.

I'm trying to install it on Debian, the sources needed some modification.

So far I've replaced "Depends: libcapsimage4" with "Depends: libfs-capsimage4" for libfs-capsimage4-dev in debian/control, that brought me to an installed libfs-capsimage4(-dev).

Then in fs-uae I had to change this:

if (log)
write_log (txt);
else
console_out (txt);
if (tmp[0]) {
if (log)
write_log (tmp);
else
console_out (tmp);
}

into this:

if (log)
write_log (_T("%s"),txt);
else
console_out (txt);
if (tmp[0]) {
if (log)
write_log (_T("%s"),tmp);
else
console_out (tmp);
}

This made it compile. Which features autoconfig decided I am gonna miss out on due to missing dependencies I don't know, but let me just say up front that I don't think I've ever compiled anything with QUITE that many compiler warnings before.

And I've compiled a lot of stuff in my time

@olegil

Now I've tried it. It complains about missing config file, doesn't give me a sensible menu (looks bloody awesome, though. Good old Amiga in-game menu look), and the launcher is non-existant.

This needs a LOT more work to be useful to most people

I think I took mine straight from the Software Center in Mint/Ubuntu so mine just worked out of the box (it might not be the latest though). I had to install both "fs-uae" and "fs-uae launcher" and I think there was a library I had to add... can't remember now.

Well I tried it, and for the most part I like it. One odd thing: coming out of full screen mode sometimes causes the X session to exit, which is annoying to say the least.

@Arnie

I neglected to check .xsession-errors -- that will probably give me some clues. It's kind of disconcerting that I'm the only one (that I know of) that is having this problem.

Are you using F12 + F? I don't have that issue either.

@tommywright

No, I think I was probably using F12 + S, although I'm not certain -- I'm trying to reconstruct the crime in my mind.

I'll try F12 + F when I get home and see how it works. Thanks for the suggestion.
