Come on! Live a little, sin! What's gonna happen if you do? Eh? eh?
To quote Monty Python about death: "You come from nothing, you're going back to nothing, what have you lost? Nothing!"

@Billsey

I strongly object to your objection. One of my first experiences with gaming was a fruit sim on a Philips G7000. Had it not been for that I probably wouldn't be making games for Amiga today.

Oh, and they're not linking themselves to gambling, but gaming. Slight difference. You only pay once to have a go at these things.

@Billsey

Software gambling isn't exactly new. Would you rather people gambled virtual money on their mobile phone, or real money down at the casino (running up huge debts and getting themselves into a lot of trouble)?

You may not agree with gambling, which is fair enough, but there is a world of difference between playing a computer game and doing the same in real life. Would you ban Cannon Fodder? Call out the RSPCA over Lemmings? Of course, in GTA/Payback the whole point of the game is breaking the law. If you banned every game that had some moral or legal issues, there would be no games left.

No offence to you personally Bill, but it tends to be religious groups that want to dictate what others can play, see or do. The recent screening of Jerry Springer: The Opera on BBC2 caused 50,000 (I think) complaints before it was even broadcast, from Christian activists. There were warnings at the beginning and middle of the show, and it was screened well after the watershed. I think (again from memory) there were only a few hundred complaints received after the broadcast. The same groups burnt their TV licences outside TV centre (send the inspectors around and fine the lot of 'em, I say), and are now launching legal action against the BBC for blasphemy.

I don't know if you are aware of this particular show, but it has been running in the West End for a few years, and been critically acclaimed. Why did these religious groups not kick up a fuss then?

Anyway, the point of this is that people should be allowed to do what they want to do, as long as it isn't illegal. Playing computer games isn't illegal, except under the Taliban.

Chris

I don't know how to break it to you, but this website also condones gambling. All these things people win for being good moderators, Big Bash prize draws etc.. If you are going to take offence about a game about gambling, then you must avoid all games then. All games involve you gambling something (life points) again't winning a prize (high score).

Heck, even being a Christian is a gamble. You are betting on your faith being the right one so that you can win a favourable place in the afterlife.

Don't be such a ninny

Hi hnl_dk,

Are domain names cheaper by the dozen or something?

About 9 hours ago, it was the old web page there, the 50 byte one, or something like that.

While I agree that there are different kinds of gambling - some of which totally innocuous - here, just to continue this OT, I have to remark that indeed the one who makes the most risky bet is who despises afterlife without having a crumb of proof about its non-existence

AmigaDE seems to have Microsoft support. If they went on about AmigaOS being their main "cash cow" they'd get thrown out like yesterday's dishwater. I don't like the fact that Amiga needs Microsoft support to get anywhere but unfortunately that seems to be the case. Maybe they'll come out with a MacOS version of the DE Player or something to tick off Microsoft sometime in the future but for now they need to keep the stinkin' giant happy.

-edit- spelling.

Going further off topic, as no-one can prove or disprove the existance of the afterlife, i offer this simple question:

Why would there be an afterlife?

Death is merely the body shutting down, the electrochemical activity in the body that ceases to be, and the simplest awnser to the question is, in my not so humble opinion, there is no reason whatsoever to assume there is an afterlife, not for us humans, or for any mammal, reptile, bird, insect or whatever.

Same thing with hat's the meaning of life? Why should there be a reason?

You are right. Sorry.

Amon_Re, do you want to continue where Ken suggests?

It seems to me that Amiga Inc has been in a hurry to put up this site as you can
see there has been a few typos etc.

It might seem too low on info about OS4 for now, but I hope they will add screenshots
technical data etc when they can. Maybe they are putting together a complete OS4
section to be announced when OS4 is ready.As long as OS4 is only in pre-release stage there is no hurry in marketing it to the world.

Personally I don't understand how they are going to make DE attractive to people, when you look around there is already mobile devices with fancy 3D gaming graphics etc. so how are they actually planning to expand? Sure the need a cash-cow if they are going to stay in business and I hope DE can live up to it.

OS4 would give them a good start for them though so I hope they market it more agressively once it's ready. It's also possible that AOS will outlive DE.
