@Hondo_DK

Here's a WIP of a design I've just made as a suggestion for a new website for Amiga Inc.

It's not complete and might have some errors, but I wanted to know if something like this would work with you guys.

See it here:

AInc. website layout

Man, there are so many talents in the community...its like AmigaInc are kicking them in the face by not utilising them. I love what I've seen so far and its gonna be hard to beat.

I'm not a web-designer, more a web-developer but I'd like to give it a go even if there is no reward except kudos. Was actually going to suggest it myself.
And afterall, if it doesn't win I'll just use it myself.

BTW....Is it just a screenshot or a working website we're creating?
Or is it just a single page theme.
We need to know the scope of the project.........
(I guess the programmer in me took over)

Would it make sense to match the image names on Amiga.com so the webmaster need only copy over the images to have the upgrade? I would think there would be less objection to this as it requires no rework. Hmmm...Wish they'd change the fonts though.

Maybe, if we're not going OT, we could discuss some of the things the community would like to see in terms of presentation. Suggestions?.....I already have a few ideas in mind....but of course I need to keep them for myself.

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.

Well, I'm going to make a working site eventually. Sure it's work but if it can help Amiga Inc. make a better website then I don't mind. They don't even have to use it, just realise there's a need among the community for them to show something better

@Restore2003

Thanks for the nice comment!

@Englyst

Not bad, but wasn't really overly keen on it to be honest. I would probably darken up some of those blues (looks a bit girly for my liking) and probably change the main font.

Having said that its probably much better than anything I could do!

I just got an answer from Greg Siegel at Amiga.Inc

He says they don't want to participate in donating, and tells me a website is a "work-in-progress", and they want to further improve it.

I answered him back by showing him Ayalos design, and asked againg if he would consider saying yes to a free contest between the best designs. I told him that he of course don't have to pick any, no matter what.

Waiting for the answer.....

Ok, let's hope they will at least consider the suggestions. Thanks for the update!

@Hondo_DK

I told you so. I wasn't against the idea of a competition, just the over-enthusiastic daydreaming that came with it.

Just to prove I'm not the miserable #### you make me out to be, here's something I knocked together yesterday out of boredom.

@Nickman

Actually the PNG seems to have monkeyed about with the brightness/contrast a bit, it's definately a fraction lighter than it is in Firefox. But I don't think that's what you ment

THAT is exactly what I invisioned the new site looking like when it came online. You have the right stuff there. And Amiga would do well to look at your logo designs... It has ties to the original, but looks modern. That full round boing ball has to go.

@Ayalo

It looks nice, but it has issues - particularly the typeface used for body text. How many users (especially non Amiga users) would have that installed? And how many would have their on-screen text nicely anti-aliased like that?

For me, the main problem doesn't lie in the photoshopping (thats the easy bit), but how you go about building the page.

Do you go with a nice, semantically correct XHTML+CSS solution that lacks any form of presentation on AmigaOS' current browsers, or do you go with an inaccessible, hacky tag-soup setup from yesteryear that caters for iBrowse and the like?

Do you use techniques like sIFR and DOM scripting that will look good for the masses, but again, won't work with Aweb and co?

I would tend to say yes, go with the XHTML+CSS+Fancy stuff. After all, iBrowse et al will get the most important bit - content - and everybody else gets the presentational layer on top of that. But that decision lies with the business.

Another big one is branding - do Amiga inc even have any branding guidelines at the minute? The current site suggests not. They're ignoring their bold corporate colours in favou of washed out blues and greys. Alayo's design scores well here, but seems a bit unfinished in places. The main page navigation for instance seems to lack a certain something.

God, I could go on forever, but I have more pressing work to attend to...

I would be willing to help, two problems I not the worlds best designer and I really don’t know if I would have time.

Here is my takeoff of Apple site I made a while back click here

Or you can have a look at my AmigaNG site. Click here

Sorry about the amount of the adverts

I think even if Amiga Inc doesn’t want anything to do with it, we should create an all in one mega resource site

I never expressed or thought of you like that

It's a fine piece of work you've made. Not my personal style, but nevertheless quite unusual. It already has more personality than amiga.com's site.

Nice, but lacks the identity of 'Amiganess'
