@hotrod

did you not kill your CPU? maybe it just over heating your system?

the via686b stops working if your computer gets to hot, I know,
as I'm unable to use my computer when it to hot in my computer room.

I need to find a way to cool down my computer and my apartment

I second that! Or at least I will once I replace the thing...

(confirmations of working configs still needed as well..)

That's the £1 million question. I'd rather a software fix was found than having to go out and spend £70 UKP on new hardware.

you can get that on AmigaOS4 by using "idetool -0 76 8".

Hell, It's worth trying (as soon as I get to the A1), maybe in a 1.5-2 hrs (hopefully).
Better than digging out extra $$ for another soundcard (can't find any use for the extra SBLive!5.1 in A1200 / Thinkpad / dying AMD-K6).

Is there any equivalent to this command in Uboot?
If yes, ill it survive the loading of AOS4 kickstart and the startup?
Then it can be pre/a-ppended to the command that sends a1 into "multiboot", "aboot" or whatever is the command for the relevant boot method is...

Any comments?
TIA,
Jack

What's the slot/card-vice layout in your A1?

TIA,
Jack

Do you have usb running?
What is the model of your SBLive ?
At the moment we've got a SB Live running on another fixed A1 and it's not locking up !?
But the SBLive out of my A1 will lock it within an hour..
The revolution 7.1 runs in both A1s without any problems.

That little bit of info could be really handy for some.
Do you have your usb activated in OS4?
We've created the lockup with USB+AUDIO, with no activity over the onboard ethernet.

I have my usb active constanly, there is a self powered hub connected to one of the rear ports. My usb printer is connected to this and I also have a couple of mass storage devices that I could try.
How do you want me to recreate wot your getting?

I'm currently running The Test (started at 13:07) with USB disabled. Nearly an hour and a half uptime here...

What we do is fill a usb storage device full of mp3s and play them with AmigaAmp. 2 out of the 3 A1's here froze, but it does take long time to happen and sometimes it does not happen. It was just something we stumbled across when we were looking for this Audio freeze.
To add to the stress we sometimes copy large files to a usb storage device.
Your A1 might lockup, but to be honest I doubt that it will.

@ALL

I'm using the second slot from the bottom. I use usb mouse and devices.

YOU ALL MUST UNDERSTAND THAT there are at least 2 problems.

These lockup come from wrong vcore or heat problem FOR SURE, but there is also another cause from some users.

Before investigate, check vcore, if it is low try to up it a bit and use a big fan to blow fresh air on the mb not only the cpu.

Check this thread:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=13233&forum=14

PS: i run dnet, amplifier, ibrowse, atc and other programs not only audio.

@ikir

I have a G4 7455 running at 800mhz and the vcore is 1.59v a little low I suppose but ive never experienced lock ups of any sort.
I to run dnetc, Ibrowse, amigaAMP and a lot more.
I have an OCZ Modstream PSU sucking air out the back of my tower along with 2 extra 8cm Fans and also have a 12cm fan on a Zalman fan bracket blowing air at the cpu, mobo and just a little across the radeon.
My bedroom is currently 27 degrees, the internal temp of my sys is 28 degrees and my cpu is the hottest its been in ages at 40 degrees. (In cooler weather this goes down to 36 degrees.
Like you say maybe its all heat related?

For a pic http://curtyh.atspace.com/comp.jpg. (its not very good quality tho)

Just for the protocol: this one didn't work.

@ikir

I have checked the VCORE hundreds of time and its set as
described on many pages and the faq. I have changed fan's
about 3-4 times to different versions and now i even
use my fan in high speed which means even better blow (noisy:')
I need it as now its hot weather in Sweden too.

So i believe i dont have this vcore and fan problem. And i believe
im not the only one that already checked this. And my A1 is fixed
(how good its fixed i dont know). So i believe there is other
problem then VCORE and FAN. Only becuase it helped you, dont mean
you found out the problem. You could be lucky :)

Could be whatever. driver, some os4 part, uboot god knows what.

With previous updates i could have lockup even when used ftp,
ctorrent etc. With update3 it seems i dont get these DL/UpLoad
problems. I can use Ctorrent for a week without any problem.
Ofcourse there could be a crash but thats if i often use too
much software on the same time. Amitorrent takes up all my cpu
and i use dnetc at same time and jabberwocky. I lower amitorrent
priority to -3 as priority 0 hogs my cpu.
And i have no lockups so i dont believe i have a fan problem here.

So i get this strange lockup is when i listen to mp3's specially
streaming with shoutcast as this is the way i listen to music.

What wegster is trying is to actually find what could do the
problem and all we are really thankfull for this as in the end it
could solve our problem.

Lets say its a FAN and Vcore problem. Why does it stop locking for
these people that changed from SBlaster to envy24ht. I mean the envy
transfers as i see it 3times more data between memory etc
(im not good in tech stuff so i could be wrong)

It could be even that our A1's aren not 100% the same, some could have
different parts changed etc.

However lately i changed some UBoot prefs and saw it shows my cpu as
866mhz ? I havent touched the overclocking. Is there any docs for
the pins how to set it back to 800mhz ? I could move it without noticing
it. Its set like this, up-down-up-down.

I believe its time to remove all dust from the computer. Its always
open here :')

@Kicko

Did you get a guide with your A1 it tell you how to set the multiplier there,

http://www.IntuitionBase.com/static.php?section=cpumod
this also shows you how to do it.
Hope that helps

EDIT - Basicly if your FSB is 133mhz the set of dip switches on the module need to be set to off, off, on, off.
