Forget the Cell CPUs. The only way consumers will get access to those is through the PS3.

Hmm...forgot your post, perhaps, is more like it. Initially the PS3 and IBM workstation will likely be the initial use of Cells, but do you NOT realize the entire architecture is built very similar to a Linux (or other) cluster that can have remote or local nodes added on the fly?

Talk about 'home integration for media'- single control center (PS3, AmigaTWO?) with a network. Plug your mp3 player into a network jack (or perhaps wireless) and have the control ceter recognize 2 new SPEs are available for use (and not JUST for MP3 use). Plug in other devices, and use their SPEs from any other device.

THAT is one of the main goals of the Cell architecture, and to run on ALL kinds of embedded consumer devices.

Now...what were you saying again?

@wegster

I was saying that Amigans have a better chance at getting bitten by a great white shark then getting AmigaOS4 ported to the Cell.

The Cell is pure wishful thinking.

@ronaldst

Hmmm, it would be very bad for Sony if the Cell would be only wishful thinking. I sort of disagree with that opinion. Well, actually the Cell was already demo'd (actually even on a PC-style machine by IBM AFAIK), so it cannot be only wishful thinking...

@MagicSN

The Cell will be forgotten in less than 5 years.

Learn to program in Java. You'll have all those Blue-ray DVD players to play with.

About the Cell... Read my post just above this one.

The Sony Playstation is still manufactured and sold 10 years after it's introduction. What makes you think the Sony Playstion 3 will be taken off the market quickly and forgotten in less than 5 years?

No one will remember nor care that the Cell is powering the PS3. The Cell type CPUs have been hyped before.
