To answer the question, i would say that's It's too long to port such a fat elephant

Many little posix os have ported FireFox without too much difficulties but such a port will need a lot of system modification or a massive porting effort.

And a 17Mo application is too big, not in our philosophy. It's why porting khtml like safari is considered as a more valuable solution. Code is easier to port, to understand and well structured. The AWeb project aims the khtml port to release the next version.
We surely have more coders on aos4 and morphos than riscos but coders are more independants...

A GTK port is on the way for AROS and so for MorphOS. It may be simple to port to OS4 too.
It's good to port applications but I don't want a unix like OS just to port all linux applications. We have enough coders to have Amiga applications.

@nicholas

I had a shell-startup in Aros that got rid of that reversed text (but kept the colors), but now I can't find it, anyone know how to do it again? (I can't find the codes anymore)

Hmm. Sorry, IMO this is just ignorant. AOS needs apps. Linux and some GNU software itself started by porting a good number existing open source Solaris, AIX, HP-UX apps, and then went on to provide replacements or improvements to the above, as well as new apps then first developed on Linux and then 'ported' to other *nixes via autoconf or hand porting.

Saying 'we don't need firefox because there are enough developers' IMO shows no concept of just how long it takes to get from 'ground zero' to a MODERN web browser. FireFox itself and Mozilla took long enough, even starting from the old Netscape code base.

BTW, don't expect KHTML to be much more 'lightweight' than Gecko...it may be cleaner to update and maintain, but it's no 'lightweight' either. Oh yes, and did you forget the orgins of KDE/Qt? Hint- Linux.

We *NEED* firefox or some other standard browser, there's no other way around it, we have to have it.
