Did you need to install the slb file first and where does it go? Into the L directory? |
The slb_v2 file can be put anywhere for installation (L: is preferred), but it must be installed on the root of the boot HD by Media Toolbox (use the Edit RDB window).
The current version of slb has version "sbl_v2 1.14 (31/3/05)" and is 31072 bytes long.

| Don't worry, I'm sure they will get to full Radeon card support eventually.
Here's one I'm getting: ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon X800 XT 256MB AGP 4x/8x
I started considering those from Matrox, because awhile back it seemed Amiga had aligned itself with Matrox more and had liked the cards such as the G450, G550, on up. When I was deciding, I was thinking maybe I'd get either Matrox P750 or Parhelia. But I eventually decided against any of those.
The more I thought about it, the more I thought: What exactly do I really want in a video card? Of course, the greatest amount of RAM appeals to me--that means it'll run more like Amiga and use *that* RAM first before dipping into the system RAM. The more memory the better. So, I started doing comparisons all over the net (love those vendor pages that let you compare several models side by side).
And I decided: It has to have 256MB or more. And a TV tuner. I knew I wanted to hook up the cable to it, and then I could pipe the signal back out to a TV and/or monitor. Some kind of dual monitor/TV support was needed.
I was first going to go for the Radeon 9800 Pro. It's cheaper, but it lacks the TV tuner that the All-In-Wonders have. (I should mention FM tuner, as well, since they have those, too).
Eventually, and despite it being a bit more expensive, I decided upon this one. The ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon X800 XT with 256MB and 256-bit wide memory interface.
Oh yeah. I also sought out those which supported both DirectX and OpenGl. I remembered this was one of the reasons Amiga Inc. had liked those from Matrox: they had both. Well, so does this one. DirectX 9 and OpenGL 2.0.
This is probably going to be one of the last AGP cards like this before PCI-Express totally takes over. And while I may yet get a motherboard that supports PCI-Express, I decided I didn't need it for now. I can still upgrade and move all this stuff to a newer motherboard, and not leave much at all behind.
I think this particular card is going to be hot (as in popular) like the Radeon 9800 Pro has been. |

After attaching screenmode, you need to select the screenmode again!

Up and running now. I installed Slb_v2 through media toolbox. It wasn't already installed on my system.
All working after I installed new firmware. A few minor issues which I will list later.

Sorry to hear you are still having problems after the installation of R3.
I'm now back up and running after installation of the correct firmware although I had to install Slb-V2 as well.
Last night before installation of the firmware I went from 'locked grey screen syndrome' to low res, low colour blue screen after disabling my user-startup which obviously had some assigns not liked by my R3/wrong firmware crippled system and removing the radeon driver from the devs:monitors drawer.
I booted from the Amiga OS4.0 pre-release installation disk (and cancelled the installation) and moved the Radeon (and Voodoo) drivers out of the devs:monitors drawer. I also disabled the user-startup as mentioned above. I finally checked that the amiga.one card was deleted from the kickstart drawer. When I rebooted I had the P96 fake low res/lowcol screen as mentioned above. I could not activated the new Radeon drivers at the stage without locking up the Amiga. After installing of Slb-v2 and the correct firmware this was corrected and I was able to put the radeon diver back into devs:monitors drawer.
I still can't change the screen mode on the fly without a lockup (still investigating this), but apart from that all else appears OK.
Hope this provides some help.

| For those of you having the lock-up problem, does your boot output anything before it attempts to display the Workbench? -- or does your screen remain black during the entire boot until Workbench attempts to open?
The 9800 should work with this driver (I have one installed here). This sounds to me like the interrupt problem (which we thought was licked). I'd follow the advice of others on here and add INTERRUPT=NO to your icon in Devs:Monitors and see if that fixes it. _________________ - Joshua B. Helm Forefront Technologies, Inc. |

Nothing displayed, as i pointed out above, it crashes as soon as a screen is displayed. e.g. Early-Startup-Sequence, nothing to do with monitor drivers on the HD methinks, because they aren't even loaded when Early Startup is opened!?
EDIT: The Uboot settings in PCI/AGP has to be LEVEL or EDGE? I have mine set to default (LEVEL) 9, 10, 11, 7 Last edited by Raziel on 15-Jun-2005 at 02:18 PM.

I case someone didn't noticed, you can workaround the Radeon9800 bug(?)
Just install normally and go through points 1 to 3 of the Install .pdf. After that, copy over your ATIRadeon.chip from your Update1-CD to SYS:Kickstarts/ replacing the newer one and off you go...
