@afxgroup

I presume you mean set the Audio output in the GUI A/V section to null (No Output)? When I set the output to null there is no audio on playback of the DVD and the Video is still very staccato with only a few odd frames displayed. (marginally better than with audio though)

Attached is the Output window. Hope this is of some use?

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
- Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
- Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
- Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
- Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
- Broken file
- Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
- Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
- Try -nocache.

@TrevorDick

Just curious. DP#5 output or experimental version output?

Best Wishes,

DP#5. Will try with experimental next. Just got DVplayer working fine with video & sound using the same DVD?

@TrevorDick

Thought so. The numbers at the bottom that change dynamically during playback
do not appear in the experimental version.

Please try the new mode cgx_vmem_scale as well the other suggestions that
@afxgroup has given you. Also, would you please try -ao sdl for audio with both
versions, if you have not already done so. Just curious if you would have any
greater success with sdl for audio.

Best Wishes,

@number6

I'm getting confused.

I tried the command line as recommended with the experimental version of mplayer.

Work:MPlayer.Experimental> run >nil: mplayer -vo cgx_vmem_scale::ALWAYSBORDER -ao sdl dvd://1 -framedrop

Shell responds with the error:- mplayer: file is not executable

If i use the GUI (version 1.32) with the experimental version of Mplayer with the above settings in the GUI, I get the poor quality (jerky) audio and video. An improvement but still not watchable. Must be doing something wrong but what?

@TrevorDick

1) for the exec problem: protect mplayer +e
2) with DVD you must use cgx_vmem not cgx_vmem_scale because it is slower than video mode without scale. and for audio you should use sdl. don't send output to the console and.. pray..

@TrevorDick

Let me simply relay what I did, and maybe you can reproduce this:
(1)Copied archive "mplayer_experimental.rar" to ram:
(2)My OS4 unrar is in c: so I opened the shell and changed the directory to ram:
(3)Then I typed unrar x mplayer_experimental.rar (x preserves directory structure,
while e does not)
(4)Copied the entire directory to my program partition
(5)Unarc'd Daniel's GUI version 1.32 to ram: and then copied it into the mplayer_experimental directory.
(6)Started Diskmaster and highlighted the MPlayer executable
(7)In center panel on Diskmaster clicked on "protect"
(8)The executable bit "e" was NOT set, so I clicked on the "e" and clicked on "OK".

Now everything should work with the GUI.

Your command line for use in the shell is not correct.
In the shell change directory to the directory of the MPlayer executable.
Then type your command line you listed above beginning with the program executable
name of MPlayer and everything that follows it as you posted.

Edit(Added):Heh! Wouldn't you know Andrea would post at the same time.
OK. We are basically in agreement here. Andrea would like you to use cgx_vmem
instead of cgx_vmem_scale because of the speed differential.
You CAN try cgx_vmem_scale though without any problems, just don't expect it to
be as fast with DVD playback as cgx_vmem.
Clarification:"without any problems" does NOT mean it will play as you hope.
It means "no system crash" "no grim reaper".

Best Wishes,
#6

Had already done this and produced the jerky but slightly improved audio/video output with DVD. I tried another couple of DVDs (supplied with amiga forever 2005). The "Amiga 1985 launch" ran fine. The "death bed" video didn't. Both played fine on the A1-XE.

I will try the cli command again tomorrow, when I'm back at the mA1-C.

Thanks again.

@TrevorDick

Sorry if I repeated something you had already done but your post read:
"Shell responds with the error:-mplayer:file is not executable",
so I thought maybe that had been one of the problems you had encountered.

@number6 & @afxgroup

Ok I tried the command line route, (with >nil: omited to see what was actually happening). Got the following output in the cli window. (Note I'm running the experimetal version of mplayer from it's own directory):-

2.Work:Downloads/MPlayer.Experimental> run mplayer -vo cgx_vmem::ALWAYSBORDER -ao sdl dvd://1 -framedrop
[CLI 1]
MPlayer - 1.0pre8.006 (03-09-2005) NewLib - PThreads (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
AltiVec not found
CPU: PowerPC

2.Work:Downloads/MPlayer.Experimental> 86 audio & 201 video codecs
Playing dvd://1.
libdvdread: Could not open a1ide.device:2 with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open a1ide.device:2 for reading
Couldn't open DVD device: a1ide.device:2
File not found: '1'
Failed to open dvd://1

Exiting... (End of file)

Is there anything wrong with my command line?

My µA1-C has 512mb Ram and a DVD-RW. I can run the experimental mplayer from the GUI (version 1.32) but get very jerky video (audio OK) if I select Use-framedrop option. If I de-select Use-framedrop in the GUI the DVD plays fairly smoothly with audio initially. After a short while the audio stops while the video continues playing?

Note for comparison I can run all non-commercial (i.e unprotected DVD's) fine with DVplay on the same unit.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong.

TrevorDick

most probably you don't have the dvon on primary slave (a1ide.device:2)
Try with a1ide.device:1 if is on secondary master.

@afxgroup

Possibly (probably) I'm confused! In the GUI I have DVD set to:

Device = a1ide.device
Unit = 1
(Track = 1, or 2 or 3 etc)

Checking my configuration with Media Toolbox my Nec DVD_RW drive is id=1, LUN=0

When I play the DVD through the GUI it plays with the limitations previously mentioned.

When I use the mplayer command through the cli I get the error message about a1ide.device:2

I've looked through the docs and as far as I can see there is not an option to select device 1 oe 2 through the CLI. What am I missing.

because you don't sepcify the channel want to use amd ,player has a default value a1ide.device:2.
if you want reproduce the exactly command line of the gui, run mplayer from the gui with the output enabled and see which parameters it use

@afxgroup

Ran the GUI with an output window as you suggested, finally started to understand what was going on! DUH! Able to get working through the CLI and now running much better on the µA1-C. Thanks for your patience!

Also now working better through GUI? Don't know why though, nothing really changed.

@afxgroup
Just tried MPlayer.experimental.
I did a CD to it's directory and then with Stargate in the drive
I used commandline;

run >NIL: mplayer -vo cgx_vmem_scale::ALWAYSBORDER -framedrop
-dvd-device sii0680ide.device:2 dvd{colon}//1

It looks and sounds good on a A1XEG4.

I also tried it without the run >NIL: with no difference. However,
if I add -ao sdl it has more frame dropping.

I'll try some other things.

I checked the "old" threads for recommendation on stack.
Is this a recommendation for the experimental version ONLY, or a recommendation
for DP#5 as well?

Does Daniel have this number?

Best Wishes,
