@amipal

The background in AmiDock there seems to have the border of a shell output. Do you have any messages pop up in the shell window as Workbench boots? I'll bet the background is ready loaded but the shell window is on top of it.

Make a back up of em before then add a few >NIL: commands to the trouble makers in your user-startup or startup-sequence & see if that helps.

FuZion.

PS. PS2 version. I've heard it's not quite up to the GC quality but I'm enjoying it a lot.

I've got the same problem, it's because of the commodities AutoBorderSize, in your WbStartup drawer.

Which you might as well all just chuck out, at least if it does what I think it does.

Try holding down Ctrl+LAlt while dragging a border -- any border -- of a window.

After that, try holding down Ctrl+LAmiga and work out what that lets you do ...

Does any other aweb user notice that mousewheel scrolling is now broken? It works fine in workbench apps.

I just had a chance to test Imagine 5.0 with the newest update, and I am pleased to report it works very well -- including being able to once again preview the textures in the attribute box. The program is even snappier than before, and though I haven't done anything complex yet, I'm noticing quite a difference with even the simpler tasks. Back off to have fun!

Yep indeed (I don't know if mine was working before...). But it works fine with IBrowse and Voyager...

I disagree as the new method (nice, indeed) does not offer the same flexibility. Moreover, the tooltypes did not work for me when I tried to use the optimal settings for my monitor (just got a horrible low resolution 4-color-or-something screen). Picasso96Prefs sure is ugly, it does its job well

P.S. haven't said it yet: update #4 ROCKS!

Great review, FuZion. I'd buy OS4 in a click, but it's too bad most of us classic PPC users dont (and probably won't) even have the possibility to give it a try. What a frustrating world.

@jtubbs

which version of Imagine are you using?
Have you tried rendering both scanline and raytracing?

For those who are interested in a small video showing some highlights in Update 4, there's a video available in my previous post in that thread.

I disagree as the new method (nice, indeed) does not offer the same flexibility.

Well, do you really need to fiddle around with all those low-level adjustments when you can just key in the resolutions, depths, and refresh rates of the modes you want? Which specific flexibility are you missing?

Did you check the min/max sync frequencies tooltypes? Are they correct for your monitor? If e.g. the HSYNCMAX is too low (and they are set quite conservatively by default for safety reasons), some modes won't be created, but instead an error message will be output to the serial port about the mode needing a higher frequency. Most people probably won't catch it there, though.

Best regards,

Niels

I have a MODE=1280x1024@75 set in my tooltypes but this mode isn't showing in my Screenmode prefs. I have to define this in Picasso96 to get it to work. Any ideas?

@pvanni

I've tried both scanline and trace. Scanline is especially fast. Hardware is SEG3600. So far I've only done simple traces such as spheres with textures. The version is 5.0. I also went online and downloaded a pack of postscript type 1 fonts which work very well. Just guessing, I would say the big diffrence in performance is due to Petunia. Up through Update 3, Imagine 5.0 was somewhat usable with a few odd quirks, and the texture preview didn't show anything at all (texture wise.) Now it feels very "native"!

Well, I like pushing the monitor and the graphic card to the max (so that the view is more relaxing) and the possibilty of positioning the screen by just using keys (instead of having to guess numbers).

Quote:

Yes. I know precisely also the pixel clock (which is another nice thing the Picasso96Prefs allows to control).

Quote:

Of course
BTW: the settings that fail when specified with the tooltypes just work fine with Picasso96Prefs.

@jtubbs

I have probabily the latest of the ACUP program, 5.17a and some version for
developpers dowloaded before the Imagine site vanished.
I tried some old projects of mine and I have strange results, I tried severals version and in
scanline I have errors in renderings, in trace mode I have at least a version
that works well, but generally only scanline is needed so I loose the scanline speed.
There also other problems, with the version that is OK in trace mode I cannot
edit axes for textures and brushes because it's impossible escaping of edit mode.
With the version that cannot render I can edit brushes axes but cannot use the
stage editor.
I must choose the right version regarding the action I have to do. And I don't have
a working scanline version.
Maybe I must try disabling petunia, I already tried without WOS emulation.
Anyway it is better than UPD3 but with UPD2 it worked better even if much slower.

Regards,
Paolo

Next test, HD-Rec: I'm really waiting for a fully featured sequencer for OS4. BnP has a lot going for it, but I think this is a dark horse. Previously, HD-Rec really struggled on OS4. The 68k interpreter in Update 3 & before simply didn't cut it. HD-Rec would ALWAYS report a 100% CPU usage. Even when nothing was going on. Add 2 effects to a track & it'd grind to a halt. You simply could not add real time (68k) effects.

This grab shows 6 (Count em) real time effects on the go. Look up the top right of the screen. Go on. And again. Take a second look... Now a third!!!

That's not bloody right is it! 0% CPU usage. 6 effects & they aren't even denting the CPU. The only time the CPU usage bobbed up was when I was sliding sliders back & forth & actually changing the effect myself WHILE the audio was playing. Even then, the highest I saw was aroung 34% & when I had found the setting I wanted, down the CPU usage went again.

This is the best news I've heard for ages.
I'm now determined to get my A1 fixed or replaced. I love HD-Rec and it looks like it's finally been given the resources to show what it's capable of.

Quote:
I even got a message from HD-Rec saying I could not add any more effects. Time to extend that limit me thinks.

I imagine Thilo will have limited it for the lite version and will allow more effects in the full release, which I hope won't be too far off.

Quote:
BTW: This really IS a fantastic piece of software. If anyone out there is even slightly interested in making music on the Amiga. My vote is here.

I agree.
Thilo is another of my Amiga heroes.
Here's to his health!
