Seems nobody has even put together an unofficial doc yet, I googled, and all I came up with was a thread just like this one from 2004. _________________ "If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you." - Oscar Wilde |

I agree, it would be nice and fair to know how to put knoppix on a pc and run Amiga Forever from it, I hope Cloanto will let us know "soon" _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk |

@TheDaddy Hello All,
I managed to install and use the knx from HD. The easy way to do this is to have 2 partition (one for knx and one for UAE and the amiga system) (if you do everything on one it will be Read Only as it thinks is on CD).
on the first partition: Format using fat16 or fat32 with a bootable floppy make the partition bootable 1) fdisk and make the partition Active 2) from the floppy type fdisk /mbr (to install the master boot record) sys c: (to pass the files required to boot) 3) copy from the CD the KNOPPIX folder and the BOOT folder 4) download loadlin.exe and copy it on the first partition 5) create a file called for example AF containing the following vmlinuz ramdisk_size=100000 init=/etc/init lang=us vga=788 initrd=miniroot.gz BOOT_IMAGE=knoppix 6) boot from the HD and at the promopt type loadlin @AF This should work like a CD if you have copied as well the folder Emulation from the CD to the first partition. the only problem is that you wont be able to make any changes to the Amiga OS as the system thinks that it is starting from CD. To change that I suggested the second partition. So if you want to use your Amiga system like an HD then copy the Emulation folder to the second partition and change your AF script to this
vmlinuz ramdisk_size=100000 init=/etc/init lang=us vga=788 initrd=miniroot.gz BOOT_IMAGE=knoppix 3
The 3 at the end will stop the auto-start for the Amiga OS. Once the KNX has finished to start you'll be presented with a linux boot :) Now you can mount the second partition and start the UAE from there by doing the following
mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/hda2/ cd /mnt/hda2/Emulation/UAE ./uae -f af_boot.uaerc
you should be able to create a script as well with this in it once you know it works hda2 can change depending with what you have paritioned your HD it could be hda4 or hda5 etc. An easy way to find out is from the linux environment to type "cfdisk" that should show you every partition with the name - hda1, hda2 or 3 etc I have modified the KNOPPIX file to automate this. As well I use the 3 for starting up the Amiga OS much faster as the normal way it stops for several seconds without any reasons so I find this way much faster to load If someone needs the customised version of KNX please contact me (via PM) and I can post it somewhere. It is only 55 mb and if you need extra customization I can help with that too. Hope this helps someone Thanx BiL0 |

| @martinalexander Hello Martin,
I created a small guide and changed some files to make this work wth one partition. the guide can be downloaded from
ftp://amiga:AF2005@81.6.196.67/AmigaForeverInstallationGuide.doc
this is done for the AF 2006 I am not sure if 2005 is the same or the structure of the CD is different. However once you have it working you can create your own Amiga OS. I have OS3.9 Install that works better the the AF system. But this is a different story :)
Please if there is another place where I can upload this file let me know as I don't know for how long I can keep it on that server.
Thanx BiL0
PS: PM me if you need extra help or want to add extra to it. the guide is just the first test I have done so any suggestions/extra things that should be in it are very welcome Last edited by BiL0 on 17-May-2006 at 12:49 PM.

How about providing a pdf version of that guide , so I can read it on my Amigaone. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

Hello, The server will be down from Friday to Monday night. If there is a place where I can put the files please let me know before Friday. If you need the files during that weekend and no other places has been made available you can try to PM me I may be able to pass them in a different way.
Thanx
BiL0
PS: next week I'll be working on the splash screen wich should cover the Linux boot time At present its only available if you use 800x600. I will try to make it for different resolutions. Any preference in resolution or image to display please provide link or JPG and I'll try to add them
Don't know how long this will take but I'll add the new vmlinuz as soon as it is done

Great!!!
But can I ask you a couple of things please?
1) Do you know if this is going to work with Amiga Forever 6.0 cd? I know that it has knoppix on it so I suppose it should.
2) For the lazy and with not much spare time ####s like myself is it possible to make a package of it with an installation script so all we have to do is click Install and have a laptop/pc booting from hard disk straight into Amiga Workbench 3.9?
It would be absolutely great!
Thank you.

That would be great. What I am after is a place to add the files as well as the server will be down for the all weekend. it is about 57 to 60 mb for all the files. I don't know if you have enough space.
If you have please download the files and add them. Then once done please tell us the link

| Wow, this post is OLD! But I got it working though (have been trying to do this on and off for a very long time until I just left it... Until now, no problem at all (the problem was just a f*****g capital when copying the damn uae-folder))!
But I have ONE final question: HOW to get the cd-rom working inside KX-Light!? Without it is no fun at all!
BTW... Runs this on a celeron @ 400mhz and it's REALLY fast in KXLight !!! |

I will try to get you an answer soon. usually if you can get into the Linux envirnoment you should be able to load a seond CDROM into a folder, but I need to check a couple of things. first if the Amiga then would see it or not second if you need to change the config in UAE
I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can. how about in the meantime use the network? I usually transfer any files using FTP with the browser

A little off-topic, but GLAD to hear from U again BiL0 !!!
Well, internet or network is fully functional (with aweb anyway, want a faster browser though ) !
EVEN MY "INTERNAL-A1200-KEYBOARD-TO-EXTERNAL-PS/2-KEYBOARD" FOR INFINITIVE TOWER WORKS (wow, real amiga-keyboard on x86-amiga, nice looking too )!
But the only thing I'm really missing is the cd-rom access!!! Tried both IDEFix and some other CD-fs, using the "UAE-drive" 0, 1, 2 etc, but not working !
If I get this working it's GREAT!!!
Some more questions:
1) I was on a swedish amiga-christmas-party last weekend, where a guy was running WARP 3D on WinUAE ( ), does this work on the KXLight version as well!?
2.1) Once I've installed the whole KXLight system on the pc, can I remove everything an reinstall AmigaOS (3.1)?
2.2) If the answer to the above question is YES, does MiamiDX / MagicWB / iBrowse and similiar "ordinary" software works (how compatible is it to the pc-hardware like ethernet (running on linux-drivers, right?))!?
Many questions, but U BiL0, is a very wise guy, would never have done this without you ! Last edited by martinalexander on 05-Dec-2006 at 03:58 PM.

Well, I have a DSL (damn small liux) from where I can reach the AmigaOS files and add files, so I SHOULD be able to mount a CD to that folder, but then it would not show up on the desktop, not that important though!
It probably won't work with MakeCD but on the other hand I should be able to use this method to add for example a usb-connected digital camera or another usb-device !
But could I then add this "mount command" to the config-file (used by Loadlin), or must I do this in a later stage in another file!?
EDIT:
Wow, I'm editing this all the time !
But I was thinking... If I mount the cd to one of the Amiga-drives (System/Work), from within linux, how would this work with no cd in the drive, do I have to make some kind of a check then or does it just work !? If I get permission from BiL0, I will write a guide (AND give him as much credit for it as myself)! Perhaps make an installer-package for everything "Linux"!?
