@Wol

I object to your picture, I and lots of others read these forums from work and that picture is definitly not work safe please remove it.

a better plan would of been to have a link to the picute with a warning that the link wasn't work safe.

a better plan would have been to work rather than read forums

I also have wxWidgets for OS4 too

Well, not GTK-MUI related, but because it was mentioned in this thread. Any update on your X11 work ? I'd like to give the wxWidgets a try. I've written some sort of anim processor at work which is based on wxWidgets and would like to port it to Amiga OS (btw: how far is your wxWidgets port from a native AmigaOS port ? If you have threads and the like running - without ixemul - a lot of work might have been done already).

Hey - please give me time to finish X11 first
Seriously - don't know.

@Jorge
I've uploaded a first prerelease on OS4-Depot some hours ago. It is only basic
environment including the server and a couple of clients.
The SDK will be published later. The size of the first package is about 50 MB!
No space left.

My wxWidgets-port is OS4 native. I don't need ixemul to build executables.
But the problem is: wxWidgets is build on top of GTK and so the resulting
binaries are veery large (min. 8 MB). The wxWidgets-lib is 76 MB (including
debug informations). I think I have to do some more work.

Threads are disabled in my port.

Did you create a new platform for your port or did you use the unix version ? I was looking into it once. But if, lets say your frame work builds on an Amiga, this is a big milestone already.

Threads should be easy to add thru pthreads (no?). I think there is a pthreads version included already, isn't it ?

Did you include you wxWidgets version in the archive (downloading it right now). What version did you use ?

Later, one can abstract GTK from wxWidgets. That dependency is not really required, I might take a look into this. But at least it runs. A hughe milestone, IMO.

Hm, I don't really understand what you mean. I've used the sources available
from the geekgadgets-project. The server-code had a special amiga-module done
by a dutch programmer. The client code needed only some code modifications.

I disabled this for my first compile of wxWidgets. Just to make it easy. I will
have a look at it later.

No, the archive contains only the basic X11 environment, no developer files.
I will upload a special SDK later.
It is the latest version 2.6.3

With X11 and GTK it was really easy to compile wxWidgets. If the SDK is out, everyone can compile his own version.

@CygnusEd

This is an interesting interview with the developer of ChoX11
http://www.drobe.co.uk/features/artifact1091.html

IMHO something like ChoX11 would be the perfect solution for AmigaOS with the current lack of native application development.

No idea what ChoX11 is, but a rootless X server would already be a good thing (tm) to have. It works reasonably well on MacOS, and while generally a pure native port would be preferrable, a Rootless X server could be made to look and feel almost the same.
