Please realize that to bring an Amiga hardware product out on the market today is practically a business suicide mission. I don't know of any market with a higher risk involved and it takes quite an investement to manufacture x number of hardware products, regardless if you do it "in-house" or via a third party. |
Namely when beggers behave as if world is in some kind of debt to them... yes I'm refering to Genesi hardware. When you have companies who shoot themselves in the foot then of course that it becomes into an 'a business suicide mission'...

It is totally normal to be skeptic and share views regarding that, and adam should really not take this personal, but he should instead try to prove us wrong.
Pure personal attacks on the other hand i agree should not happen here. |
Absolutely agree on that one. People being sceptical or calling it a hoax are just a result of Adams actions (or rather non-actions...). Personal attacks against him (OldTimeUser) on the other hand are absolutely nonexcusable whatsoever and have been dealt with.Last edited by polka. on 14-Jun-2006 at 04:41 PM.

You say this as if you believe that all of these companies are deliberately producing vapourware to annoy everyone. I'd bet that the majority of those 'vapuorware' projects were conceived with the best intentions, but failed to materialise simply because bringing any complex product into the Amiga market is no easy task. |
I already apologized in my previous post for my English. Actually, I do NOT mean they are deliberately producing vapourware, but hey, we've been struggling for many many years so I think people involved in those projects should be very careful about announcing products in a market as difficult as the Amiga one is, because as I said we've seen lots of announcements in the past, but very few of them materialized: I can agree that users should take those announcements with a pinch of salt too, but this should not and IMHO cannot justify companies behaviour (that's why people gets upset, right?), so...

It seems that to develop Amiga hardware you must either have an incredibly thick skin, or keep very, very quiet. |
...IMHO the latter should be THE approach: it's better to make no announcements unless you're actually ready to (at least) show something to the general public, or even better, until you're ready to ship. I understand that in an ordinary market it would be completely normal to build hype for your product by announcing and promoting it well before it's ready, but... is the Amiga market an "ordinary" market?
I don't think so (anymore)

What pattern, only thing I noticed maybe from Adam where over excitement, onsidering what he where doing, maybe he made, just made the announcements to early. I properly do the same thing in his position.

You truely are delusional if you think there is any kind of profit to be made in the Amiga market. Please do go ahead and start your own Amiga business and try to make a profit. |
When projects are killed at birth is difficult to start a venture to bring an Amiga Business... believe it, many had tried, but with 'forbidden' hardware.

These are hobbyist dealers, not very unlike GGS-Data in Sweden who is run by a single man from his own apartment which is breaking even at the most due to keeping the costs to a minimal. The risks taking by dealers are just a fraction of the risk taken by the hardware supplier who takes a risk about the amount of all dealers put together._________________ Sammy Nordström, A.K.A. Youre wrong. Vesalia is not an hobbyist dealer. Sure they've closed theyre store but they had an own technican which is supplying the pegasos systems (and which has repaired my µAone-C) and you can reach them the whole day by phone.Last edited by cHaOs667 on 14-Jun-2006 at 04:46 PM.

Individual Computers and Vesalia are no hobby companies. They are small, but their work and business does not differ from other small companies. And if they wouldn't have made any profits during the last decade(s), they would hardly be still alive. So in both cases you are wrong._________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

I agree. This is very sad indeed...
However, i can't help feeling disappointed about how many are criticing Adam and his company, attacking him and causing him to consider dropping all his plans and even leaving Amiga? I don't want that to happen

Thanks for at least trying Adam... I'm right behind you. And I hope your dad is okay.
Good bye guys. It's been fun. This was our last chance of any new hardware. Since Adam has quit, there's not much use in hanging around. A1 users, enjoy your OS4 while you have it. Looks like you will be the only ones to ever get it anyway.
Maybe Troika can license that board for you in a few years time and then you can get OS4... I've already hung around longer than I should based on promises of new hardware coming made to me in PM's...
See ya, bye!

I totally agree. |
The problem with this "approach" however is, that in a situation of 1 1/2 years of silence, many of those that would like to buy OS4-licensed hardware would be gone and probably never come back. The carrot-dangling and "very soon now" statements however keep some of those people in a constant waiting-disappointed-waiting-disappointed loop._________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

Sorry to hear abotu your father. This poll shows that a number of people expected something to come up to delay the pictures, and I'm sure a number of those were rolling their eyes when they saw your post.
That doesn't excuse whatever crass comments were removed by moderators though, and I do hope that after taking some time for things to cool off and deal with more important things that you find your way back to making your project real and complete and sellable. _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |
