Does anyone have any more information on this?

Seems you can remove the PowerVixxen TL from the list.
From what I heard Amiga Inc treated ACK with the silent treatment after the initial
contact. Adam got tired of this and seems to have dropped OS4 support completely.

Hopefully it could change in the future but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Amiga Inc. 18 months into their final goal of killing AmigaOS!

If OS4 support has been dropped, which OS will it be compatible with?

Does anyone have any further information to corroborate the above quoted text? If true, I would personally be very saddened.

And no, I will not log on to IRC to find out.

I was watching the Amiwest stream and also heard Jen sarcastically remark that Adam had so far failed to purchase the 1200 connectors he ordered.

Something hasn't been right about the project from the word go..

I still hope something materializes from all this but I'm skeptical

@Aminicle

I agree if you mean AInce's POV, I disagree if you mean from our POV

I believe all that was mentioned is that he had found a source that could supply
what he (Adam) needed in the -quantity- that he needed.
I don't recall reading that he had actually received them.

I clearly heard Jen say that he was still waiting for ack to complete the order.

Maybe something has changed since, I don't know..

@Thread

All in all, incredibly frustrating.

However I think that the issue of Amiga Inc not licensing ACK because they are deemed to be below their 'wealth' radar (a bit cheeky for a company that had it's office furniture auctioned off and changed corporate identities twice to avoid certain ex-employees) is a convenient smokescreen for the fact that noone has seen even a grainy, fuzzy photo of a PV that was already in production for over a year!

I find it annoying that when people legitimately asked why OS4 could not be ported to the 'Open' PegII - they were jumped on by the usual croud for being 'disloyal' to ACK. PV is only 2 months away they said!

Anyway, we are still in the situation we were in in January '06 - vague promises of hardware from unproven sources - don't get me wrong - I hope they materialise

but

the only people we can count on while we are waiting for this to happen are the proven hardware developers like Genesi, Elbox and Individual Computers.

Yes, but sadly none of these platforms will ever run OS4.
I would have bought a pegasos ages ago if OS4 ran on it.

The A1200 accelerators connectors are pretty expensive - around USD $12 each and a minimum order run of 3000 units- i.e. USD $36,000

Quite an investment and this is just the connectors- let alone PCB and other components.

Has ack now purchased and taken delivery of these connectors?

I am thinking that ACK's intentions are good, but I think he needs to rethink his business plan. I think he was trying to just break even on the boards and while that sounds great to us, it would mean no income for his company and no profit, hence no real business plan. That is my understanding with the information I have heard, so I do not know if this is true or not. I think if he had a business plan with a slight profit margin then he would get a bit more support from Amiga/Hyperion. That is a shame as it looked pretty promissing. I hope that somehow he can pull it off and get some product out there running OS4 or even OS5.

I think many people underestimate how costly it is to build complex hardware - not just the cost of components and manufacturing but the added cost of regional regulations, such as the EU's RoHS directive.

There are many posts calling for cheap OS4 hardware but any product put out to market needs to be warranted and supported once consumers have it.

Many announcements of hardware have been made but to actually get the simplest specialist Amiga products to retail requires a lot of capital investment. Maybe the solution to this is for efforts to be combined.

Let's just face it people. There is no new hardware comming for at least 9 to 12 months.

There are 2 pieces of hardware that could become available in the above time frame. That is the Samantha or the Panda. My money is on the Samantha because of several reasons I'm not going in to.
Both these motherboards can fall or stand out of the prototype phase if, and that's a big IF, they can find a production company that can deliver fast and steady based on user demand.
Especially the first month either of these motherboards needs to be produced in a high volume. After that demand dies down but if it rises again all of a sudden, the end user should have his/her board with a month after ordering. I'm very worried about all of this.

Then there is the following. Both boards will ONLY be sold in our geek community which will mean prices will continue to be high. There is no other company that will build systems around these motherboards because the continuation of their product will fall or stand with the production of these motherboards and let's face facts; The risk is too high for them. These small companies have a high risk factor in just going bankrupt.

I think that the Elbox Dragon will arrive before any OS 4 hardware since they have had a good excuse in the hardware delay by bugs in the Coldfire processor that had to be fixed first.

Frankly I have pushed for the "integrated hardware department" and writen about
it many times here. Since our developers are independent, there are probably
only two ways for this to become even a small reality.
(1)Someone takes control of the project as a whole (management)
(2)Developers (still as independents) take this upon themselves to establish
the relationships necessary to move in this direction

Note:This idea has been explored and the networking at the previous 3 or 4 shows
has undoubtedly resulted in some talk in this general direction.
Willingness may exist. Structure to accomplish this is quite another issue.

Last I heard from Adam he was seriously considering doing an 68k emulator for the PV-LT while waiting for the OS4 licensing issue to be resolved. That is all. There is nothing more about dropping the PV-LT or anything of that nature.

Speaking of speculation, we all know Amiga Inc. and Hyperion are in negotiations. Until a deal is struck, I strongly believe nobody is allowed to license AmigaOS 4.0 for any hardware. Note I said "believe" because I don't know for sure. For me that means no SAM or Panda or anything else until Amiga Inc. and Hyperion get their act together. I suppose Hyperion could license only AmigaOS 4.0 to a third party as long as they don't use the word "Amiga" anywhere but I'm not a lawyer so I just don't know.

ssolie is likely the last one to talk to Adam, as he was awaiting delivery of CPUs for AmiWest, which never showed.

Adam has said (in irc...you'll recall he said he wasn't coming back to the forum..) several things, rnaging from licensing being problematical and/or in limbo, to possibly releasing the PV LT for OS 3.x, possibly working out licensing later....which was confusing, as I thought the assumption was 'add-ons' for classic didn't need a license..?

Last I recall, it sounded like he was going to build the TL and _then_ worry about licensing...yet, all in all, he's disappeared (he was an IRC regular for some time..), with no CPUs to ssolie/AmiWest, and no tangible product that anyone has held in their hands.

He's a nice enough guy in IRC, and seems _able_ to build a product, but from all appearances, he's not able to get anything happening with respect to OS4. Maybe this will change, but until I can hold it in my hand, anything from ACK is vapor in my book, sadly.

Note he did try to garnish some support for the TL for other OSes I believe...Haiku was one of them, with some posts on their forum(s?).

With respect to #6s 'management obsession,' sorry 6, you know it won't happen. AInc can't manage themselves, let alone manage hardware projects. It would make some sense for the various hw 'attempters' to try to work together to not step on one another, but after all, they are companies, and want/need to turn a profit. Not to mention we've yet to see any purchasable hardware from any of them...
