It might have something to do with an MPC7448.

That would be surprising in the sense that Eyetech has since long gone away, and they left with a few bitter comments that showed some disappointment towards the whole situation IMHO. On the other hand, Eyetech is the only one with a valid license (if they have the right to dub any kind of hardware as "AmigaOne", which they at least have done in the past (three different motherboards)), so in a sense, Eyetech would be the least of the surprising options. But I think maybe Alan Redhouse feels kind of burned by his earlier attempts to make money on this "market", so unless someone (maybe someone of the above mentioned) have made him a really attractive offer, I don't think Eyetech is a realistic guess...

But do Eyetech really still have their carte blanche no-questions-asked licence, considering their fraudulent behaviour and junk products? (I wouldn't at all be surprised if that is the case, though.)

Another thing to ponder: Even if Eyetech themselves no longer have their own licence, do they still have a say on who else is to be granted a licence?

Re. dubbing stuff "Amiga[Something-Or-Other]", that's apparently an additional separate licence, which Eyetech seem to have lost or declined some time before their marketing of the Teron Mini as "micro-A1" (sic). Only the Teron CX and PX were ever officially marketed as "AmigaOnes".

What would be *really* surprising ...

... would be if AmigaOS would be allowed to be developed for, sold for and run on good and reasonably priced hardware on an open market.

Imagine a more sane situation where discussions like "Do you think [Hardware X] would be a suitable target?" would be the norm, instead of "Do you think [Irrelevant Basement Company X] will try to get a licence for [Overpriced Underperforming Hardware Y]?"

Pleeeeease, surprise me! ;)

Would you want to live in a world where it was required that every and any piece of hardware capable of running AmigaOS 4+ had to be referred to as "AmigaOne"? I very much hope that we have more of a variety of naming conventions. If we end up seeing the AmigaOne-SAM or AmigaOne-PVLT for sale in a couple months, I'm going to bash my head against the wall. I'd personally like to see the AmigaOne name left behind, and newer, fresher names or model numbers come out. If I made ahrdware, I would not want to call it "AmigaOne". I'd want people to distinguish it from Eyetech's products. And I don't think the XE or SE style suffixes are enough to do that well. PowerVixxen and Samantha are more obviously differentiated from Eyetech's AmigaOne line. MicroA1 lets you know there's reason to suspect there's something different about it compared to teh AmigaOne SE/XE boards, while the SE/XE boards have more in common with each other than with MicroA1.

I'm happy that my A4000T was not named Amiga 500-4T or Amiga 2000-AT. And I find Apple's tendency to keep giving their products the same name even when significant changes happen to be annoying and confusing. For some models you distinguish which version of that model you have based on the date of manufacture, when thre may be very different chipsets, clock speeds, etc. present in the different date ranges. I just don't like that. I have an iBook G4 14", but that says very little about what might be in it, and it even hard to tell which one I have when looking them up on the internet.

AFAIK, AmigaONE is an Eyetech trademark, as such it can only be used by them or if they agree to let others use it. Should be a statement or something about that on amiga.com IIRC

Amiga Samantha doesn't sound right either tho...

The above would refer to SAM and would come from the SAM hardware developers.

Any other announcements are speculation atm.

Heh! Please feel free to over analyze what "from our side" and "within" mean...

Well, the news item did state "parties" so there's no reason not to believe ACK and m3x will announce something this week or there abouts.

At any rate, it could just be "we're in prototype now" and not "on sale" so wait and see still applies IMHO.
