@Canfod
Sorry folks for hijacking the thread.

Funny You mention that. I got some hockey pucks With Jack in the box on one side and the Long Island Cougars on the other side. Jack in the box like the Cougars are long gone from long island. Those pucks would settle this if I remembered where they are. You probably are right as my memory is a bit rusty on this. Only two years wow I went to alot of games seems longer. My neighbor Frank only had girls so he enjoyed going with me to the games. Thinking back on it I think my father brought tickets on day's he couldn't make it on purpose. So he would have an excuse to ask Frank to take me. Seeing how dad never missed a fishing trip.

More I think about it you are right NAHL is on the reverse side of one of those pucks

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing earlier, but then, quite frankly, this thread needed jacking a LONG time ago, as does the A.I. vs. Hyperion thread(s).

Well, I DID look it up, and in the process found a hockey database site that I've bookmarked, since it appears to have plenty of info for us nuts-for-hockey Canadians.

I'm originally from Indianapolis. And it looks like my memory is a little off, because this is the last team I went to see. That would have been about 1983... 25 years ago, wow.

I believe you are saying this tongue in cheek. so I will leave my paddle hanging on the hook.

All I can say to anyone who does not like the topic of a thread is, stay out of it. Create your own threads.

That team's predecessor was the Indianapolis Racers - I know a guy that played on that team, briefly, when Wayne Gretzky was on it, just before they joined the NHL. Hmmm, I looked through the names of players that were on the Checkers' roster over the years, and there's at least 9 or 10 that I recognize as having made it to the NHL too.

Yeah, it was "tongue in cheek", i.e. yes, it was a totally unintentional thread-jack, because I had something to say on one item, and because of several replies it's turned out to be more, but the two threads mentioned both should've been jacked months ago, or locked, or blown out of existence. OTOH, if those threads weren't still going, there wouldn't be much to talk about here in Amigaland......

Interesting how they call Amiga Inc. a NY-based company. Where do we send the pizza in NY?

Link to the City of Kent Press Release:

http://www.ci.kent.wa.us/eventcenter/index.aspx

Briefly, the agreement is for 10 years and for 3.175 million.

Looking back at an older quote in this thread from one of the newspapers:
Quote:
And Amiga, Inc., a multi-media technology company based in New York, will pay $10 million over 20 years for the naming rights to the events center, which is about twice what the city was expecting to get.

I remember how some people argued that that reporter was incorrect when he stated that. Well...
The Amiga deal, to refresh everyone's memory:

Quote:
secure the $10 million, 20-year naming-rights deal

So...20 years for ShowWare would be about 6.3 million, which is about 60% of what Amiga was supposedly offering for an equivalent time period. I'd have to lean towards the reporter being correct then.

I'm sure the Mayor and the Thunderbirds are relieved. Now there will be less of a tax burden on folks and its much less likely any pesky questions will ever come up again now about how they orchestrated a deal for extra money with Amiga in the first place.

Reading about another naming rights deal in the news I came across this funny line:

Quote:
And, historically, naming rights have been a classic vanity move. Corporations tend to make grandiose civic/corporate statements right when they are about to implode.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/183148

Pretty amazing that the deal for a bank as big as Citi for a stadium as big as this, in a market as big as this, is only forty times the cost of the Amiga deal that fell thru for Kent.

The city government (stadium owners) must be stupid.
They are supposed to have a contractual bid with a financial penalty if the sponsor cancels.

Another team is making the Showare Center home.

The Seattle Mist Lingerie Football League team.

Sorry, but I can't resist joking about what AA2 apps Amiga may have had for their games, if it had stayed becoming the Amiga Center instead?
