I think all Amiga users are quite aware how fragile promises are within the Amiga market. We have all lived through bitter disappointments over the years.

That is why, I am pretty certain that Rogue, etc would not be talking about it in the manner he has been were not Hyperion 100% certain that they have the right to release the product.

Then why over a month until release? Give us an ISO download we can buy now. Lets get this going. Otherwise like Spacedruid points out why should people get into bidding wars to only perhaps waste money (as they may only buy to run OS4) and others lose their spare cards that they would not otherwise think to be selling? And if Hyperion is taking the position so forwardly that they indeed have the right over AmigaOS ip then I see little reason not to release for SAM as well. And then this campaign would not even be so necessary. Don't get me wrong, I support this idea greatly, once people can actually get the software for real.

@fairlanefastback
I think Hyperion are testing the legal waters, giving Amiga Inc time to respond, and hopefully time for the judge to give a decision (about whether they can go ahead, or whether they will have to await the result of the long court battle).

So I expect OS4 to be released for the Classic by this Xmas, if it's going to be before the court battle is resolved. Given that OS4 for Classic *would* have been allowed by the original contract (before Amiga Inc tried to cancel it), and although IANAL, I am hopeful that they will be allowed to sell it.

So yes, buying a PPC card now (solely for OS4) would be unwise.

@Mikey_C

I have a spare card currently at Amiga center and providing it's repairable hope to donate along with a new copy of OS4 to any potential developer.

I'm sorry to see a constructive thread like this being hijacked in such a manner.

Akiko.

@TrevorDick and Akiko.

I did not remove those post from Mikey_c and Takemehomegrandma because I just I thought it would be fun. Stay on topic, no need for off topic remarks about how sad it is that it's taken off topic..

@ChrisH & others

the legal situation is, in the context you used it perhaps on topic. That does not however mean that "who is going to win" or "who's right and who's wrong" regarding the court case is.

How so? they have not even officially announced the product, no court will bother with a comment about a product made at a computer show. Quite a clever move by hyperion to protect themselves.

@Mikey_C

I might take you up on your offer actually, it'd be good to confirm that they're still working. Even if one of them isn't working I still think it's worth passing it on to someone who stands a chance of getting it working. I'd fancy my chances if I still had the classic hardware.

I'll be in touch.

I may as well add my opinion I suppose, since I'm involved in this thread now. I think it's in everyone's interest - Amiga Inc's, Hyperion's and the community for OS4 classic to be made available. Unfortunately I sold my kick ass A1200 setup (maybe I shouldn't have) so I can't run it myself, but anything that keeps the current Amiga user-base going for a bit longer has to be in everyone's interests.

I look forward to a positive announcement regarding OS4 for classic, and in the absence of a classic setup for myself I'll try to get my two PPC cards into the hands of real Amiga users who'll put them to good use.

Well, I bought my CSPPC certainly not for the sole purpose to run OS4!

In two weeks it's 10 years since I bought it on the very first day they were available at the Amiga fair here in Cologne.

Back in 1997 there was no talk about "OS4", but it was announced that the future for AmigaOS would be the PPC and that AmigaOS will have to be ported to this new CPU.
Back then we thought MorphOS would be the "Amiga-PPC-OS" one day...

[sarcasm on]

If someone feels the need to spend a thousand Euros or so for an 10 year old piece of HW for the only purpose to run OS4 - why not?

Consider their inner satisfaction when listing directories, copying files around, configuring the GUI, playing around with the Prefs and so forth!

There's nothing that could beat this!

[/sarcasm off]

@All, please keep this thread on track. Thanks.

Hey Good Amigans!

If you have any Amiga Gear to sell that you are not using anyway, like for instance CSPPC/BPPC cards, then now will be a good time to put it to market, since Hyperion is about to release OS4 for this kind of hardware. This will revitalize this second hand market and it will probably be easier than ever to sell second gear now, and you may *never* again get a price as good as now!

Market places that are known to have lots of gear-hungry Amigans lurching around with their wallets open and ready to strike a deal are:

Now let's get the market going! Put your ads out there, and spread the word around about it!

You forgot Amibench. Not very active these days, but worth to take a look at.

@Mikey_C

Your efforts to increase classic PPC availability are helpful.

It would also be great if you could drum up as many people to donate to the

Port AROS to SAM440 Bounty

and therefore help the only people who bothered (and put their money where their mouths were) to make new hardware specifically for OS4.

You know in your heart that ACK is just chaff for the Judge, don't you?

Every little helps.

@Colin_Camper

Thanks for your kind suggestion, however, am afraid, that whilst AmigaOS4 is still a viable alternative, I am not feeling too enthusiastic about AROS at this present moment.

As to your comment about ACK, personally, I am pining my hopes on Acube.

Kind regards

@Mikey_C

I wasn't asking you to be enthusiastic about AROS.

I was asking you to drum up support for Sam440.

Porting AROS to SAM440 makes it more likely to still be around and viable as an OS4 platform.
