Wrong.
Mc Bill back then repeatedly publically stated that AmigaDE/AA would be supported in OS 4.2 and completely merged with the AmigaOS in version 5.0 .

These were the initial (originals) plans.

I think that both of you are mixing-up the plans of Amiga Inc #1 (Amino) and Amiga Inc #2 (KMOS) :

AI #1 (from 1999/2000) had lots of plans to eventually merge OS4 & OS5, but they also had a lot of plans for AmigaDE, and we all know what happened to those (mostly nothing, apart from a few PocketPC games).

AI #2 (from about 2005) was born from the ashes of AI #1, and it's clear that neither Bill nor Fleecy are in charge (in fact Fleecy seems to only be a 'technical advisor'), and that the original plans had to be radically revamped. They didn't talk about them much, but you can glean quite a lot from some of the stuff that was released very early on in the legal trial.

So no, I'm not suffering from a poor memory, although maybe you are

@Dandy

I mean - I actually payed nearly 100¤ for my copy of OS4 classic - so I'd say Hyperion certainly got a certain amount of that.

Sure, but how much is that really ?

Ok, being a bit optimistic, and say OS4 sells 4000 copies, that would be 400.000 euro then. That's a lot of money, but now we have to pay the employers, the costs of running the VOF and get food on the table and that 400.000 suddenly is very little.

Sell 40.000 copies, now that is starting to make money.

Hey! I am not responsible of this mess. No amiga users have caused this ping pong/ flipper game of the trademark!

Since when are you waiting for a new hardware? Come ON. Even Duke Nukem forever will be out soon.

That's why I wrote "Mc Bill back then repeatedly publically stated..."

I think you agree that McBill is still the same person - no matter whom he currently works for...

@AmigaBlitter
Your answer (in post #123) does not seem to be related to what I said. Although I guess you might have been venting your frustrations in my general direction.

OS5 is the evidence that they are not interested in OS4.

First, you seem to imply that OS5 was ever going to be anything to do with OS4, which seems impossible since they never had the source code from Hyperion (and more to the point they never suggested it would be related to with OS4).

I suppose my real criticism was of the assumption that OS5 from Amiga Inc #2 was going to be the same as OS5 from Amiga Inc #1.

It would be easy to fall into that assumption, if you hadn't been closely following Amiga Inc #2 (KMOS)'s actions, words, and especially the stuff released about a year ago for the legal trial. Indeed, Amiga Inc #2 have seemingly done their utmost to confuse casual on-lookers into thinking that they are one & the same as Amiga Inc #1, so it's not your fault.

I think you agree that McBill is still the same person - no matter whom he currently works for...

So if McBill worked for Microsoft (and perhaps they even bought all of Amiga Inc's IP), you would expect Microsoft to produce OS5?... (Feel free to replace "Microsoft" with "Foo Bar Inc" if you prefer.) Of course not, because different companies have different plans.

Not to mention that companies can radically alter their business plans (which is what happened if you wish to view AI #1 & #2 as the same - they just didn't advertise their change of plans in a clear fashion).

Answer was yes because there was nothing like it for the price. That is not true today.

Actually, it's true today, too. Just not in the same sense as back in 1985....
