@danwood

I'm trying MPlayer on Linux and the sound is choppy and the video is constantly breaking up. I think the problems are at their end.

Same thing here. Buffering over and over.

I'm using a 1.5gig PC with WinAMP and every couple of minutes it's having to buffer. Unwatchable.

Never mind I'll wait for the reports on the show.

I think it's a bandwith thing, maybe they are being a bit optimistic with the stream rates perhaps, either there not enough bandwidrth at their end, or / and not at mine, so the video stream is permanently running out. Frame dropping on a live stream is not so easy

@broadblues

Yeah I went down to the PC and tried there, same here.

Why don't they shut down the video stream and just have the audio? Should be enough bandwidth for that to at least run smoothly so we can all hear the presentations at least?

I gave up on the video, it was unwatchable.

@danwood

At first I was unsure, I thought it was my machine as there is another PC running on my home network.

Switched off the other machine and closed ALL programs and tasks that weren't needed.

Unfortunately this did not do the trick, are there any other things that could be causing the slow down at this end?

I think its their end. I have a 20 meg connection and nothing open but OWB and Wookiechat. Plenty of bandwidth. Seems others are having problems watching too.

I was about to suggest they stop the stream and lower it to 10fps (it was at 14) now they just bumped to 21fps!

Everyone seesm to be getting the same issues, anyone actually see it properly?

Anyone able to contact via IRC and suggest dropping the frame rate?

It's the hotels upload speed that's probably killing it. Don't what it like in the states but DSL lines here are always much much slower on the uoload connections. Unless you can afford SDSL.

In many places in the UK you cannot even download faster than 512kbps - I know as that is what the monopolisitic BT limits me to

We've got a Virgin Media connection that is pretty good, but Amiwest is unwatchable.

@BillE

Hmmn the average UK connection now is something like 3 megabytes. You can't even get lower than 5 megs on Virgin media now iirc.

I have a 20 meg connection. UK bandwidth is a lot higher average than the US.
