Since RunInUAE does not work with EUAE 0.8.29 SDL WIP4

If that's what became Cyber's EasyUAE, it's because it doesn't have an ARexx port

I haven't tried any RTG screenmodes with E-UAE yet, so can't help you.

I haven't tried any "modern" (CD based) 68k games using RunInUAE yet. I guess never occured to me, but will try.

BTW, Shadow of the 3rd moon works fine (for me) on OS4.1 withOUT E-UAE, using the right settings.

Thinking about it again, I know why: It wouldn't make sense to use a CPU hungry game in E-UAE (too slow). Remember that E-UAE achieves something like A500 to A1200 performance on a Sam440. In general, CD games were intended for high-spec Amigas, and therefore no point in E-UAE.

Shadow of the 3rd moon needs faaast CPU. Napalm not so sure about, but probably wouldn't run too well? Don't even bother trying Genetic Species!

Here (PegII, AOS4.1.1 Radeon 9200) it doesn't, I described the errors already in the other thread! Using the same settings you posted there. No idea what's wrong sometimes I even see the flight screen and can control the bomber/fighter but the keys for lift off and acceleration are not recognized at all!

NAPALM is borderline on my PegII with EUAE.

@All:

What about the 0.8.28 settings regarding uaegfx? Anybody any idea?

@ChrisH

Accedently I was trying installing r2 on my AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1 just about 1.5 hours ago. Then I discovered a loads of errors. Then suddenly I saw this thread! Thanks.

Still some remarks:
- It doenst work with All Amiga Forever CD's. I got the first one which I got from Petro personally. But this one is not recognised by the installer.
- Second, If you want to select a KickStart 1.3 file, it keeps looking for a specific file name. My roms are named differently than the AmigaForever disk, and I want to keep it that way. Why not selecting a file instead?? Makes life a lot easier for people who don't have a defaukt config.
- The file .uae_RunInUAE is not copied during install.
- The only thing that is installed is RunInUAE and one doc file. Why not all the other files?

I'm now busy for over 1.5 hours to get this thing working, but up till now it doesn't work on my system.

So the R3 isn't working by just clicking the install icon. Somewhere something goes wrong I think and several files are not copied to their proper locations.

Correct. As the installer says, it works with AF from v3 up to 2009. Before v3 the required 3.1 files were not present, and I'm not sure whether 3.0 files will work (and would rather everyone uses 3.1 so less problems debugging).

The installer should install the Kickstart files with the correct name. I can't use different names, because that would require modifying the config file, and I don't really see it's needed anyway. But edit the .uaerc & .uaerc_RunInUAE files if you really must...

Quote:

Thanks for spotting this bug! It only happens if a .uaerc file is already present. Now fixed for the next release.

In fact, this MIGHT explain why some people were unable to use HD installed games, which had really puzzled me.

What other files? Everything else is installed where it should be...

Hmmm, I think it would be much simpler if you just created a NEW v0.8.28 E-UAE installation, and made RunInUAE use that. You can have multiple E-UAE installations without problem.

If you don't have a supported Amiga Forever CD, then tell it you don't have one. It will then ask where your Kick 1.3 & 3.1 files are, and also tell you to copy contents of a WB3.1 disk to the folder you choose.

@Mrodfr
I assume you don't have an Amiga Forever CD.

Yes, copy contents of Workbench 3.1 disk to somewhere on your OS4 computer. It doesn't matter what the folder is called, call it WB3.1 or Meef or anything. When the installer asks, open that drawer using the requester.

I have now made the third alpha release (please use the download link in the first post). Changes include:

* It's now a commodity, which can be run from your WBStartup.

* E-UAE's verbose output is now hidden, but available if you need it.

* RunInUAE has a menu & an optional AppIcon.

* Tweaked the installer further. (Maybe too much to hope that it fixes all installation problems!)

I've just discovered www . whdownload . com . Looks like a much easier way to install WHDLoad games you own, and of course most of them should automatically work with RunInUAE!

(I'm guessing that this is the site Saimo's gluae "Helpers" will be downloading from. Well, no need for "Helpers" with RunInUAE! Just download, unarchive & run :)

@ChrisH

Thanks! It works really great and I like RunInUAE!
You also have seemed to solve the issue that 68k apps without icon, now also can be run by just double clicking? At least from a short test, I can say it worked

Just still the AmigaForever2006-Games/Demos (all without icons) do
not work by double clicking. RunInUAE starts (and now even just by double clicking)
UAE and a window appears that the games/demo is started, but then the screen
went black and nothing happens anymore. CTRL-ALT-R brings you back to OS3.1-WB.
Then clicking on the Game/Demo again and eveything startsup fine.

regards,
nexus

Great man! Is looking more professional every time. I don't think people know how cool this is until they try it themselves, coupled with non double-scanned screen settings (which deliver 100% native A500 "RGB-Scart" look) my Sam acts better than my A2000!
On the latter, after I installed the accelerator and the fatter Agnus (a 2MB version from DKB) many games refuse to work while they do so perfectly on Sam (and they also look the same on non-doublescanned screenmodes)!

Should be a "contributed" commodity on the X1000

Yup, I added that. I just hadn't expected anyone to start iconless games (didn't even know of any!).

Strange. But I have an idea which might fix it - hopefully for the next alpha release.

I have now made the fourth alpha release (please use the download link in the first post). Changes include:

* It should no-longer crash when the Timeout is set too low for E-UAE (or certain other circumstances).

* Hopefully runs all *iconless* 68k programs now. (Nexus?)

* New menu item added, to choose where E-UAE should be found, rather than having to edit it's config file. Use with care!

@ChrisH

thanks, I'll report later I'm at work atm
(u asked for whom tries to start icon less gams/demos? I can answer it: all amigaforever2006 users which want to start the apps NOT on windows )

Just another reqeust:
Could you also add mounting of "hdf"-files (hardfiles, partitions) by just double clicking?
There's at least on game from AmigaForever2006 which i never could run, because it comes
as an hdf-file -- I think it's called "Tower of Souls" (but I'm not sure atm))

regards,
nexus

Had a quick look, and it turns out to be quite easy, but probably not using the method you thought of:

First, you need DiskImage installed. It comes with Update 1 as a contribution, so I suggest installing it from Update 1. Reboot after installation.

With that done, type this into the Shell:
MountDiskImage DRIVE IDF0: YourPath/YourGame.hdf

This should make it appear on OS4's Workbench! You can then open it up, find the game, and then with RunInUAE active, just double-click it to run :) . For some reason I just got a black screen with Tower Of Souls, but there is probably some special E-UAE settings required (the legacy.uae file may contain a hint, I didn't look yet).

To make double-clicking on a HDF mount it, I will assume you have Update 1. Go to Sys:Prefs/DefIcons. Find the "archive" folder in the Filetypes column, and click on it. Then click the Add button, and change "< < new > >" to "hdf". Then under the Action column, Add a PATTERN, and enter #?.hdf for it. Now click Save. Done!

Yes .. and no
Now, AnotherWorlds starts by just double clicking. Unfortunately, still
there seems to be something wrong. On the display appears the prompt
to insert some disk and then, to press a button. Pressing the button causes
AnotherWorld to load forever. The prompt is written on a black screen with
the AnotherWorld-Font. So, it IS something which comes from the Game
AnotherWorld. I guess, the wrong executable in the AnotherWorld-directory
is started?

Usually, u never have to change any disk. The AmigaForever2006 version of
AnotherWorld is completely installed on HD. No adf's or anything.

Thanks,
nexus

@ChrisH

The DiskImage-approach has one disadvantage. The E-UAE config is changed by RunInUAE.
Means, next time, you start a different game, a Requester appears because of the missing
(unmounted) volume.

Thanks,
nexus
