I was going to ask the same question. I have just purchased Hollywood myself. I haven't had much time to try it out myself but it seems to be a superb product! It would be excellent to get a Hollywood presentation/animation to showcase the AmigaOne X1000.

My advice would be to make a "clean" presentation - do not add different effects to each page.
Personally I prefer to use the crossfade-effect, since this is hardware accelerated on OS4-machines.
On the Hollywood-forum I have written about our commercial infochannel made using Designer - it is a very simple presentation with very few effects : Dental Kanal
Designer is ofcourse able to make alot more complex presentations if you really need it :)
However, beeing able to release your software as a simple pc-executable to your classmates should raise some eyebrows :)

If we get enough people to support Andreas by buing his software, maybe we could motivate him to further develop Designer!
If we could get a version supporting some of the amazing features in Hollywood 4.7 we would very soon end up with a product to make all amiga/morph/aros-users proud!
The software from Andreas is in my eyes the most exciting software released on amigaOS for ages :)

| @fuskoSCN Yes it is! Hollywood is simply awesome, not only for multimedia but from my point of view for general purpose programming too! Thumbs up for Andreas and its great products, without Hollywood I think I will never restarted to program for Amiga & co. :)

Well, just started to work on my exam presentation with Hollywood 4.7.
|
I started to use OOo Impress for "important" presentation again. I use Hollywood for things where I am sure to present things within the workgroup only or for teaching purposes. Also many universities have a corporate design these days. If so, use it (one of the main reasons I use Impress, I use the provided drafts). Don't try to impress ppl by effects, impress them by facts and clear and structured slides and talk. For exams follow the KISS rule. It is the best advice to keep it rather conservative (!=boring). At least I usually don't honour experiments, because most of the time they don't come with a benefit . Of course you may add a little goddie here and there, but do it sparse.
Currently I use Hollywood for teaching stuff (presentations, simulations, some software for experiments), but the students are sitting directly in front of my butterflied Mac mini (only two or three students at a time, that's one of the advantages of a so called German "elite university" )._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Well, got started this weekend
What do you think about this plan:
An intro inspired by crackintros with a chiptune?
After that the main presentation in "serious PP style (=very few effects)".
So, why the intro? Well, I am going to talk about VLAN, a very technical topic, and if there is a lot of presentations the same day I am scheduled, there is a great risk that my presentation will be like number 5, and what will the audience be like after 2-3 hours of listening, my guess is "a bit tired".
So the intro is a method to wake them up, before the main "serious and boring" part. _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff! |

If it isn't goint to be too long and too much it may work out as an attention catcher. I myself often use some chilling music for the topic slide to make the waiting until the talk actually starts a bit more pleasant.
The question is: will the ("important") audience understand the attempt to give a slightly breaking start to catch attention or will they just be confused. If there is a risk for the latter, better skip it. As long as it doesn't distract from the original topic of the talk I would probably like it (but, hey, I am an Amigan, a species known for liking non conventional things in general and cracktros in particular). _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

General thoughts about intros for presentations/lessons:
1. Motivate the audience by 2. asking questions about the upcoming topic (questions should then be answered during presentation). 3. Give already a "hint" to the final conclusion 4. Wake people up 5. Intro should directly lead to the topic / closely related to the topic...
I donnot know what VLAN is and what your main points are... but here is an example I used ages ago:
Topic: Salesterritory planning and facts to be considered (same amount of visits/customers per territory; natural barriers like hills, bad streets etc; and much more....)
Intro: Picture about gold diggers setting their "claims"
Conclusion: Use our salesterritory planning software to set your "claim", -> create salesterritories which will give you the best market positions agains your competitors (first come first serve...)
Please keep in mind, English is not my mouther tounge and I just did a quick translation - so some words/vocabulary can be choosen much better... Just to give you an idea...
By the way, if you use hollywood, you are able to react on audience input, so maybe it is a good Idea to get your audience into the boat as well / dialouge instead of monolouge.

Well don't know, judge yourself www.geobiz.de/download.htm... Anyway if one wants to showcase the AOne X1000 it is not only about beeing good at Hollywood/Designer it is also about exactly knowing:
1. Target Group for product 2. Midterm/Future Marketing targets 3. Unique (selling) points for product
If you are sure about those points you can "show off" your product X1000 wether you use Hollywood or any other sort of presentation Soft (maybe a programmed Demo) doesn't really matter. If you want to show of the excellent software you have for X1000 (wether this is Hollywood, OO4kids, Pagestream, Timberwolf...) it is once again a question about the target group you are aiming at. E.g. if you are aiming at "Kiosksystems" Hollywood is compulsary to be shown. If you are aiming at desktop/home user market go for Timberwolf/OO4kids.... I remember a thread where "Ellwood" focused on low energy consumption of SAM board...
But anyway, if I can be of any help, you could also contact me privately at birkenfeld at geobiz fullstop de

| Presentation done
I had to skip some effects on the intro, to get a safe exit to the presentation part. (I did not have time to solve a problem with dual loops properly, so played it safe and skipped the least important one.)
After the presentation part I made a simple, but yet nice end in filmstyle, with text scrolling with "thank you to following companies and people", and also throw in a boing ball there, no particular reason, apart from "because I could" . The ending scrolled in the background, no sound, while the audience got their chance to ask questions.
And Hollywood, well, the most fun IDE to work with I have tried, mainly because of all the cool examples that are included, as well as a good user manual with examples.

yes, bought the Windows version, mostly due to my XE felt a bit unstable to work with for this project with a tight schedule to make a presentation. Really did not want to risk any delay due to hardware trouble. _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff! |

Great to hear that you had fun creating the presentation! Are you planning to put the presentation online in the future ? I think its nice to see what other users make!

Well, don't have a good place to host it atm, but I can of course send it via email to people who are interested.
It is about VLAN though, and in Swedish, recon the interesting part for non-VLAN interested people would be the general layout used for a serious presentation, which got some , "cool" and "nice presentation" comments
Currently only have it as .exe, but can if requested make executables for other platforms as well.

| Hi all,
Thought I'd resurrect this thread as I have just installed Hollywood and Designer and have no idea where to start.
I have a piece of software I want to write but not sure whether it can be done in Hollywood, would love to think it can be.
If there any videos or online tutorials could someone please point me in the right direction.
So far all I have is a mock-up image created in a DTP package and exported as a PDF of how I want it to look.
If there is anyone that can assist I would be greatful.
Thanks all. _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |
