Ta dah!!!!!!!!!

Well you did, you broke the 1400 euro target and AmigaBounty now has now enough funds to purchase 2 Sam440ep-flex (733) "Vento" type systems complete with OS4.1 for the AmigaBounty Developer Hardware Loan program.

The total funds raised amount to an excellent 1442.8 euros. Any excess funds in the bounty after purchasing the 2 SAM's will be used for shipping costs.

Many thanks again to all who donated to this true community project!!

@all
Thanks for the donations AFAIK we now have enough funds to buy 2 developer systems from Acube.

EDIT: Although we got a nice discount from Acube still we were missing a bit.

@ALL

We mis-calculated a bit (tax and shipping costs) so bounty is open again. We're closing it at EUR 1550 and money will be used for 2 SAM systems and to cover shipping costs (from acube and to developers).

ArrggH! My fault, I forgot that Italy charges VAT @ 20%.

I've made another small donation to help make amends!

Edit: 69 euros to go and counting down.

Talking to myself again!

After another generous 50 euro donation, now only 21 euro to go!

@TrevorDick

This is great news ! I like this type of donation program. We should do this on a regular basis eg every month or so as we have achieved this in a few days.

One suggestion would be to have a new donation system for external programmers.

eg Hire a developer for a project from http://www.freelancer.com/

a medium level porting project eg port Inkscape to AmigaOS. Or even IDEs,C# framework etc.

I estimate $500 + developer system is needed.

@asymetrix

I like your idea, however we would probably be better to stay with known and proven "Amiga" developers. I can't think that many of the software developers on http://www.freelancer.com/ would be up to speed on AmigaOS4 or applications.

@TrevorDick

I agree, but I do think its worth attempting, there are more non Amiga developers than Amiga developers - I think developers are used to different languages and platforms.

Converting developers into Amiga developers should be #1 priority as we need more blood

Also it would be good to know how developers learn AmigaOS, the pitfalls etc so we can gather this information and maybe even create a crash course in Amiga development.

Now that we have Firefox on Amiga, which uses XUL - a platform independant GUI, porting applications to XUL would be within developer capability. An Amiga programmer could take over the project to add Amiga specific things.

carefully selected tools and programs to help assist porting, API translating parsers etc would be useful tools.

Amiga developers could focus on getting XUL easily bolted onto Amiga applications, so ANY Amiga application can have 'addons' like firefox addons - if they like that feature.

Using XUL means an unholy mix between javascript and C++. For applications that didn't start out as XUL targeted apps it's quite likely it'd be faster to port their UI to one of the "normal" Amiga GUI toolkits than trying to bolt on a XUL UI. There's a reason there's hardly any usage of XUL outside of Mozilla projects.

@vidarh

I think other systems have so many GUIs they just use something that they are comfortable with.

I dont think Javascript + C++ is too much of an unholy mix, mozilla uses it and every Windows gadget uses javascript/C++/CSS/XML

All windows .Gadget files are renamed zip/rar files.

Windows 'ran' with javascript in a big way with their Gadgets, but the real question that bothers me is Amiga had Arexx years ago - so why have we not we 'ran' with it so to speak.

microsoft has wscript.exe and cscript.exe which are standalone jscript (lol) interpreters
