that link here
amigablitter posted, it shows the x1000.. is it passively cooled ?!
no (noisy) cpu fan ? that also means the cpu runs cool ..
that's good news :)

on a second look, i wonder why they bother using an IDE harddisk .. does that mean sata driver for the x1000 isn't ready yet ?
if the x1k is supposed to be available this summer, does that means it will have no sata supoort in the beginning? or it's just because someone there likes IDE ?

Just back from the fair.

To the others that attended - was it me or was the whole announcement thing badly organised? You could hardly hear the bloke from A-eon and couldn't see him either unless you were crammed at the front. At the very least he should have had a mic on, and/or had everyone stand in a horseshoe shape so more people could see him.

In terms of info, the price will be "north of £1,500" and they couldn't/wouldn't tell us the make of the CPU. They said it was likely the machine would be on sale before Xmas.

It was cool to see the X1000 running OS4.1 though and the SAM 460 running. I'm very much inclined to go down the SAM 460 route now though, cos >£1,500 is a little steep.

@freeaks

They made reference to the beta testers having it for the summer, but yes the talk was of "before Xmas"

If you think about it, it's summer already and the beta testers don't have the hardware yet to beta test it. Allowing time for that - a few months - and you are looking at Autumn/Winter.

Hmm.. and isn't it a network card as well ? Seems like internal ethernet isn't supported yet either.

Yes it does seem that they were a little 'over ambitious' with the release date. Still it's good to see something - did any one see any XMOS demos on it or anything 'wow'?

That is kind of bad news as it will just give more fuel to certain trolls ;\
But did not come as that big surprise on me though.

Hey! Just give 'em more time! Hardware must be supported at launch date, this is only a preview presentation. You should be already happy most of the system is actually working, and that's impressive.
