Let's not forget that it's in titles like Return TCWolfenstein, Racer, and better (ie:Doom3 and so on) that people want's to see native ports the most. |
Return to Castle Wolf was ported to morphos months ago by Bigfoot, and its a great port.. but not released yet for who the *#@( knows what reason.. |

Dunno about planetspcape , but baldur1 and baldur2 for sure works.

Maybe they just wait for new 3d drivers to be released in public, to give normal FPS right after first release. I also try to build it few weeks ago for aos4, and it even start to compiles. then it meets with some x86 assembler parts, and i put it on hold till gallium will released (for now port will make no big sense, because will be very slow)._________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites |

Not yet tried any apps/games. (DOS seems responsive )

I hope that dosbox 0.74 I worked on will be better. I have to test again and then package before the release.

PST does work, but GemRB has a problem with save games.
And on topic... @corto
Interesting - does that mean cpu core tweaks or something else? _________________ : AmigaOneXE (unmod.) 750FX/512 MB +stuff & AmigaOS 4.(0|1) : A1200/68060&96MB/SCSI/EM1200-Voodoo3 & OS 3.5 : A500/1MB : Pegasos (ff) 512 MB & MorphOS Praise seitan. |

Even better? 3000 CPU cycles with 62% CPU load on SAM is really good result (at least in comparison to our current E-UAE)! You did impressive work. |

| If it didn't do 20k there would be something very wrong with it, because G3 "model" is in 8000..9000 range. _________________ : AmigaOneXE (unmod.) 750FX/512 MB +stuff & AmigaOS 4.(0|1) : A1200/68060&96MB/SCSI/EM1200-Voodoo3 & OS 3.5 : A500/1MB : Pegasos (ff) 512 MB & MorphOS Praise seitan. |

The thing is that even if you want to tell people to install AROS to play old PC games the thing is that you can do that on a PC with Windows or Linux as well and at least IMO AROS doesn't run natively well enough yet. |
It may depend on the hardware configuration of your PC. For instance, on my AspireOne netbook AROS runs very well and fairly better, if compared to Windows and Linux - lightier footprint matters on low specs hardware - so yes, I basically prefer to run DosBox under AROS than under Windows in this case.
Moreover, I think AROS is more friendly to an amigan than Windows or Linux are. Independently from HW config.
Quote:
Also when I don't use the PC I prefer to use AOS 4 over AROS and actually lots of games run very well in DOSBox. Sure more speed for an emulator is always good but I don't think that the need is that big. |
This reminds me of a on old story about a fox and grapes. PC games that don't run on AmigaOS version of DosBox are either "too modern", "not enough interesting", etcetera. Power is ALWAYS good when dealing with emulators, unless you are emulating a very basic architecture that doesn't need much power to be emulated. x86 PCs, however, are huge beasts and the more speed you can gain, the better emulation is. That's a fact.
Quote:
There's also the issue with time. I play modern games on the PC, I play games on the Wii and I don't have time to play anything else. Quake 1-3 already runs natively on AOS 4 so no need for DOSBox there, not for Duke3D either. |
I guess the world will be happy to know about your Wii and about your habits in the spare time. However, I wonder why we should talk about native conversions, moreover if we (AROS users) have them too, and thanks to Gallium3D they are even nicer to see (shaders, what are they?).
Quote:
Actually I don't even know what your point is? Install AROS so you can run old PC games faster? Well... no. |
Install AROS so you can ALSO play your run games faster. Why not, if you can do that? |

| I have another idea how to measure DosBox performance:
1) DHRY2OD benchmark from this package: http://www.roylongbottom.org.uk/dostests.zip
in DosBox with cpucycles=max
It will show integer performance in DMIPS (Dhrystone 2.1). Eg. if you score around 5 DMIPS your performance with cpucycles=max is comparable to 3000 CPU cycles.
2) The Doom Benchmarks at the same conditions in DosBox.
Doom benchmark is suited fot both integer and 2D GFX performance.
Example Doom Benchmark results from corto: dosbox 0.74, modified, on MacMini G4 Linux : 6726 realticks, 11.1 fps dosbox 0.74 modified, on MicroAOne G3 OS4 : 8379 realticks, 8.7 fps dosbox 0.74, modified, on Sam440/667 Linux : 30967 realticks, 3.5 fps
Thanks for your time. |

| Mac Mini G4@1.5GHz, MorphOS 3, DosBox 0.72 (thanks itix):
Dhrystone 2.1: Microseconds 1 loop: 52.50 Dhrystones / second: 19048 VAX MIPS rating: 10.84
Doom Benchmark: 7942 realtics (9.4 fps)
Comparable to: SVGA with AM386DX 40 MHz - 80486SX 25 MHz
Note: Newer DosBox versions would have probably 10-20 % faster CPU emulation. Note: 10.84 DMIPS is rougly 6750 CPU cycles in DosBox. 1.5 GHz Mac Mini can highly probably reach 13000 CPU cycles with fixes cycles settings (difference is interesting) |

with Dosbox your X1000 emulate a 386/25 or 386/33
Dell 386 25 mhz, 128k cache, MS-DOS 6.22
Dhrystone 2.1: Microseconds 1 loop: 37.75 Dhrystones / second: 26490 VAX MIPS rating: 15.08 _________________
