@Troels

... and ARESOne is far more flexible and software advanced AROS and AmigaOS 3.x emulation system then "Commodore USA Amiga" will ever be, or at least is at this stage announced. It starts with just 220 euros for case and software, which they will hardly beat.

Its ARES One brend they are competing, and I like the ARES package and AROS support

AresOne 2010 Kit, µATX AM3 Board, AMD Sempron 2.7 GHz, 1 GB RAM DDR2 PC800, Radeon HD4200 On-Board Graphics Card, 500 GB SATA HDD, incl. AROS, A-Live X Software Package, AMC Licence, Art Effect 4.0 and Amiga Forever 2009 OEM

AresOne 2010 System, µATX AM3 Board, AMD Sempron 2.7 GHz, 1 GB RAM DDR2 PC800, Radeon HD4200 On-Board Graphics Card, 500 GB SATA HDD in LS-02 MicroATX Case (black) w/ 400W PSU, incl. AROS, A-Live X Software Package, AMC Licence, Art Effect 4.0 and Amiga Forever 2009 OEM
263.90

The AresOne 2010, just like its predecessor AresOne, is a complete PC system specifically assembled to be used with AROS. The hardware components were selected to get the most out of the current AROS version, and to be ready for future improvements. The AresOne 2010 is suitable for Amiga enthusiasts, friends of light HTPC systems, and experienced users, it is not intended for the average Windows user (please keep in mind that AROS, albeit progressing nicely, is still in development).

Hardware:

The current base model features the following components:
µATX AM3 board w/ 4 memory sockets, Radeon HD4200 graphics and VT1708S high definition audio onboard
AMD Sempron CPU 2.7 GHz
1 GB RAM (DDR2 800)
500 GB SATA HDD
MS-TECH LS-02 case incl. 400W power supply

You can certainly also upgrade certain components, please have a look at the configuration options.

Software:

The AROS Research Operating System is a lightweight, efficient and flexible desktop operating system, designed to help you make the most of your computer. It's an independent, portable and free project, aiming at being compatible with Amiga OS at the API level, while improving on it in many areas.

Additionally to AROS, the AresOne can be pre-installed with Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu or Windows, if you wish.

The AresOne also comes with the A-Live X software package, which contains Cinnamon Writer and a licence key for Frying Pan. As a bonus, the 68k Amiga version of Art Effect 4 comes bundled with the other AROS software.

We also include a special OEM version of Amiga Forever with the package. The latter is useful for UAE since it contains the required Kickstart and Workbench images (1.3 and 3.x) for UAE plus 50 games and 50 demos. If you need more Amiga Forever, you can also purchase the full version at a reduced price. Every AresOne customer gets a licence for the AMC software package, the program will be made available for download eventually.

A portion of the AresOne profits will be used to fund AROS projects, especially driver development and licensed application software.

now if only the dirty fight could be kept strictly between cusa ppl that would be just sweet.
i can picture a scene where barry would suddenly attack and grab leo's leg .. start gnawing it in a frantic fashion ..
i'd go as far as opening a new popcorn bag for that!
sorry for the bad joke but that's the only way i can think of where cusa could still generate interest ..
;)

on a more serious comment,
congrats to the opensourcing of hda driver.
my hat off to clusteruk for the right decision and continued efforts ..
(i'll refrain to comment on his avatar though ;)
edit: best of luck with the secret project too.. i don't know what it is,
but it sure have me curious about it.

One has declared war on us and is threatening all kinds of off-the-wall stuff and the other one is bragging about how he almost fooled us into paying twice as much for HDAudio as he did everyone else, like it's a good thing to attempt to rip us off.

You call $1000 a rip off ? I guess that is about the amount you were to put up with. And even if it were 2x $1000 I see no problem. You're a business, so if you want AROS the contribute like every one else does. Cluster and Pheonix has invested $1000's and most probably more in their business too why shouldn't you.
You act like spoiled kids. You're reputation is what it is because of it.

I think as someone else said that you didn't dare to fulfill your plan because you would then have been dragged to court. Why not come out and say it if it was so ? Why blame someone else ?

I wonder what happens if someone would write that, but targeting Hyperion instead of CUSA. Instant ban?

@vox

AresOne 2010's AMD Sempron CPU 2.7 refers to AMD Sempron 140 (K10.5 core)?

@polka.

the thing is ppl wouln't say that to hyperion.
or at least even if some did, most wouldn't agree..
the reason might be:
hyperion do things .. keep their promises.
they delivered os4, updated it .. they made things moving forward again.
if it wasn't for them there would be no os4.. also they comunicate with community..
so ppl trust them and buy their products.

in the case of !c=usa, so far we got:
bad business pratices,
talk only nothing concrete,
they said at some point they may help aros (their only amiga connection)
but now, not so much anymore. so it's completely unrelated to amiga.
it's normal to see ppl saying such thing toward !c=usa
and also normal same things aren't said toward hyperion ..

what mystery do you see here ? !c=usa just shot themselves in the foot ..

@freeaks

I fully agree, I was merely asking myself wether ARs would be dealt the same irrespective of wether it's a "good" or "bad" company in the eyes of the majority here. But I have already moved off-topic enough, let's stop at this point.

@polka.

well, it's sort of topic related i'd say?
since the topic discuss the opensourcing of aros hda drivers, in which !c=usa somehow had interest.
they may have helped reaching the bounty sum earlier or something like that.
or preventing it to be opensourced at all.
at least at some point they were included in the hda "story".
in any case, i think drivers are part of the OS and considering AROS as an opensource amiga solution, i think most (if not all) OS components should be opensource. idealy.
so i'm quite happy hda could be added to the familly proper with sources and all :)
imho to comment on the question you asked, only bad company meet that kind of strong rejection.
like ainc or eventualy genesi for ex. (i might get flamed for that ;)
while bad mouthing good company would result in warnings and strong community protection.
by the way what means "ARs" ?

@BigBentheAussie

Anyone with adequate programming skills could have written (most likely ported from *BSD) a HDA sound driver for their specific commercial hardware platform(s). You never needed to use someone's closed (at the time) code. You could have declared AROS standalone isn't ready for your commercial products, with just cause, and created a hosted AROS distro with the native OS doing the sound support.

Why be bitchy about not having "rights" to clusteruks paid for work for cheap or free?

In my opinion it would have been better PR to have a better sound stack than AHI ported and released to AROS in the same manner that nouveau+gallium has replaced the extant nvidia graphics driver, or as Poseidon has replaced the former limited AROS USB code base.

DaveAE might be a good person to speak with about that. If not for his actual work, then at least as a consultant.
