sorry it wasnt debian, but netbsd: http://www.de.netbsd.org/ports/amiga/
look at the comment number 18 by frank wille: http://www.amiga-news.de/de/news/comments/thread/AN-2011-01-00030-DE.html
(you have to use some service to translate it from german)
Quote:
|
ok i will try to quickly translate what he says: "only for the record: blizzard ppc uses the same chip 53C710/770 as A4000T, A4091, Magnum, Warp Engine or Zeus. the only thing thet the new driver frontend does is to check whether BPPC (manufacturer=8512, product=101) is present. the rest is identic!
therefore it is bs to expect that it changes something in case of os4. the source for 53C7x0 is available since 16 years under bsd licence."
i think frank is one of well informed people that can be trusted on such matter, or do you doubt it?

By my definition, ALL Amiga related products are vaporware until end users have them in their homes and are using them as was advertised. It seems that many companies have good intentions to give us future Amiga computers, but none of them can deliver because everything Amiga is still in total chaos as far as who owns what. And maybe some companies have no intention of giving us anything more than hope and they expect to be well paid for it.
The very notion of ever having another Amiga that actually deserves that name is little more than wishful thinking.
Here's hoping I'm wrong. |

Your entire post #86 are spot on...they have acted arrogant and unprofessional, and I wish you could have communicated like this a year ago. Sadly I think you came out of it as someone who wanted to stop the projects succes, and thus had everyone after you....understandingly enough.
But no matter how foolish they made themselves look, it's one hell of a cool project, with a ubercool cpu, a nice modern edition of AOS, and an interesting xmos chip. If it ships and works well, it will be a delight to follow, and an even bigger delight to own me thinks.

Yeah, I was never against the X1000 or Trevor. I was against the process. I started asking questions and trying to get some truth a year ago after hearing the first alpha board had only just been received days before the web site went up.
Not only making announcements about a product, but also giving a release date when you aren't even able to release basic information is a sure way to hurt the community. We've seen it too many times. There's little excuse for companies to keep doing this.
The X1000 itself, without the mismanaged process, of course is good. OS4 is only going to grow with more and more ways for users to run it. Last edited by AmigaHeretic on 26-Jan-2011 at 02:32 AM.

I'm sorry to disappoint you: I've got a Volvo and an Amiga. With respect to cars and motorcycles alike I have a deep love for rear wheel drive. Until now the only ones from a list of 15+ that listened to the steeringwheel by pushing the accelerator. The odd frontwheel driven ones I had or used made me sometimes very nervous... |
Well, I'm with you on the rear wheel drive. Front wheel drive completely kills the fun in driving. Right now I happen to have a FWD Ford and we have lovely snowy winters. What a waste of slippery roads! I sorely long for some snow drifting.
But then again, when you're stuck in a pile of snow or a mud hole FWD gets you out. Something SAAB has always done while Volvos and most others were just stuck...

And that's about the only advantage of frontwheeldrive I've repeatedly heard mention that makes any sense...
When talking about frontwheeldrive the figure of 80 spontaneously springs to mind: -- more then 80 BHP you don't want under the hood -- faster then 80 km/h you don't want to drive -- younger then 80 years you don't want to be
We're going nicely OFF TOPIC this way, don't we? Probably due to there not being much news to discuss otherwise, except that OS4.1 Classic has gone Beta since January 21 a wee bit unnoticed.

Ahh, yes ! Rear wheel drive, the way nature intended.
Ever seen a front leg drive Kangaroo ?
A Horse with the big legs at the front ?
A front wheel drive Motorbike.. ? (Instant hospital trip I think )
Its physically logical for the same reason you put the big brakes on the front wheels.
Wol.

IIRC, somewhere in the 80's KTM experimented with BothWheelDrive. They applied a flexible shaft like the ones that are in use with Dremel and its ilk. It was not a success to speak of.

Had to laugh when we had heavy snow a little while ago. I arrived home from work on my motorbike and couldn't get into my street because a BMW car was stuck with it's rear wheels spinning and going nowhere. I had to get off my motorbike, push the expensive car to get it away, then carry on on my RWD motorbike |

Again, that was a jab at the "process". i.e. Photoshopping other peoples images to make it look like "you" have created something, in this case a custom case. There was no Amiga Boing Ball case. Again, I think that whole photoshopped case thing was in bad taste. Whether the intention was to mislead people into thinking that case was real or not I can't say, but I know people thought it was real (still think?) and no effort was made to say otherwise.

And one of these "fooled" people might he be called AmigaHeretic?
Seriously though.. Isn't this vandetta of yours just a storm in a glas? Who in their right mind thought any of those pictures where real photos? They where simply mockups of how the case/board will/could look like. What's the problem with that? When they release X1000 I'm sure they'll reveal the case as a Fractal Design Define R3 with a custom front door. But they don't have to, really.
You could naybe complain about the delay and maybe keeping the CPU a secret for a year.. But the pictures are simply silly to go on about (searching for reasons to complain?). Still its their business, they can do whatever they want. You started complaining the minute they presented X1000 not a year later, why?
