| okay, thanks for confirmation. now i also would like to know the answers to kas1e questions, mostly the last three, as we know the dates might always be subject to change yet, therefore i dont want to grasp anybody by word. i think some details of the current progress of the project might help everybody to make up their mind themselves.

Personally I interpret this update as if AmigaOS 4.x for the X1000 is massively delayed. There is mention of linux and case badges, but nothing about the progress of AmigaOS 4.x. Those have been typical stalling tactics in the past.

if it is delayed then it is a great news to aros, morphos and os3 users, so either way it suits the community! ;) |

| "Remaining revision 2 boards will reach beta testers during Q2..." so thats anywhere between 25-86 days away. So if all goes to plan the Amiga X1000 will be available to buy May/June. Pg. 17 of AF.
CleverDick: Are you going to stick that image of the black & white X1000s on the front page of your website side by side? Add a little colour to the page. Last edited by djrikki on 07-Mar-2011 at 09:51 PM.

I was able to watch that thing at the Essen show this summer and was not impressed at all by the seen performance. More the opposite, it was rather disappointing to me. Other things at that show have been more impressive to me. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

I hope AEon will not try reinvent the wheel and just sponsor some hardware to Debian/OpenSuSE developers and get a proper, supported code with patches upstream. |
That is not our intention. However, it made sense (to me at least) to leverage off the work Varisys had done. I use Linux (Debian) on my Sam Flex and Ubuntu (v8.10) on my Pegaos II and x86 Netbook (v10.10) I would like the option to use Linux my A1-X1000 but first and foremost it will be running AmigaOS4.
As for continuing Linux support in the future, we are in contact with one of the original PA6T developers who maintains the Linux port.
TrevorD |
That sounds good and I think a full Linux desktop is mandatory in addition to OS4. Linux is a great help testing the board but I still wonder why a known distribution like Debian is not chosen. It will take benefit of all the experience and the existing packages. I would like to run both OS4 and Linux on this machine (and why not both at the same time in the future).

Cecilia (ImageFX) came up with that line in the IFX mailing list, I asked if I could use it in my sig, she had no problems with it. Quite fitting, if you ask me. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

There were many changes and improvements between the Essen and AmiWest shows, as Eliyahu indicates above (post 34).

One of the goals for the final product is to run fanless, if possible. At the first showing, that may have been running without a cpu heatsink as a starting point. That would require a lower clock rate. The system at amiwest had a cpu heatsink & no fan, running at 1.8GHz, according to Ranger. The last thing they want to do is put out a system that burns out the cpu, so testing is a slow proccess in this regard._________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |
