| Hi all,
So, today, the day of our lord 23 february 2012 it arived...
My all new SAM 460EX motherboard together with 2 Gb RAM, SIL 4 way SATA card and a Radeon X1950 graphics board.
But wait... whats that ? Another package ? Yes, its a Saphire Radeon HD4650
If one should fail sometime, I'v got a backup card, in case they run out of stock everywhere.
Cursed a bit about Alinea not packing a backplate for the SAM...... damn.... I placed the SAM in my tower together with the RAM, GFX and SATA cards, connected the fiddly front USB, LED and switches connectors (boy, I need glasses...) Connected Hardrive, DVDRW and mouse/keyboard (through a USB to 2x PS2 splitter), monitor and network cable. Then cursed some more about the not being there of a parralel connector (Damn ! but maybe my epson 950 has a USB connector)
Then cursed A LOT when the backplate came sliding out of the OS4 box, then removed everything, atached the backplate to the SAM and placed everything back.....
Now I'mat the virge of powering up the SAM, wish me good luck.....
To be continued....

Congratulations! Oh, did you remember to spill some blood inside the case? That's needed for safe computing

| Right now I'm installing OS4/
When I power it up I get a ugly flashing screen full of coloured squares then it goes on initialising the drives and hardware wich takes forever, then it boots from CD. Is this all normal ?
Keyboard and mouse work fine (logitech wireless connected to a VGA/PS2 swichbox, wich then goes to a USB to 2 times PS2 splitter), monitor works fine.
The HD LED does not work (probably wrong way around connected) Alinea shipped me a 575 Mhz RAM module, why ? Shouldnt a 800 Mhz one be better ?
Should I update Uboot ?
What settings do I need to change in Uboot to make it faster and not scanning for ages for drives ?

| What was the deal again about blocksizes, maxtransfer and stuff on the HD's filesystems ?
SFS 0 or 2 ? JXFS for bootpartition or not ?
Max partition sizes ? _________________ Theres a time to live and a time to die When its time to meet the maker Theres a time to live but isnt it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying |

I read that when there's 2 Gb of RAM installed the SWAP will not work. Also I found the block sizes to be used.
Still installing.....
Great ! Install was finished then my mouse and keyboard froze, I had to push the reset button. Now I cant boot from HD....
Installing for the second time....
Firstly fixed blocksizes and buffers, should help a little... Last edited by Metalheart on 23-Feb-2012 at 08:06 PM. Last edited by Metalheart on 23-Feb-2012 at 07:57 PM. Last edited by Metalheart on 23-Feb-2012 at 07:51 PM.

Ahhh! Isn't if FUN to play and configure your new AmigaOne? I am just about go to my desk and work on making a "Restore" CD/DVD for my X1000.
I hope you don't have too much "FUN" in getting your new SAM460ex set up, so you can have some real fun using it.
I am brand new to OS4.x, so I have a lot to learn and many mistakes to make along the way. It is exciting to be learning again and figuring things out.
Good luck and enjoy your new SAM460ex! _________________ Amiga! The computer that inspired so many, to accomplish so much, but has ended up in the hands of . . . . . . . . . . |

| CRAP !!
Installed OS4 succesfully (atleast that is wat it said) but still cant boot.
Tried all boot options in Uboot, no succes.
Also why doesnt uboot keep my saved settings ?
Both the HD and DVD show up fine in uboot.

What filesystem do you use for boot partition?
Note: OS4 can´t boot from JXFS. |

SFS 2... I think I did.... (checked: Yes SFS2, bootable tagged, boot priority 0, the rest of the formatted drives are JXFS)
Do I need to do something I forgot to install the SLB or FLB ??
When booted into WB from CD (wich works fine, WB feels snappy) and inserted a USB stick into the front USB port on my tower (connected to one internal USB connection) the stick is inmediately recognised and loads very fast
When I reboot (soft) the SAM boots from HD fine.
Also there doesnt seem to be an early startup menu. Last edited by Metalheart on 23-Feb-2012 at 09:09 PM. Last edited by Metalheart on 23-Feb-2012 at 08:48 PM. Last edited by Metalheart on 23-Feb-2012 at 08:42 PM.

Boot off CD, open media toolbox for the HD, click Edit RDB/Reinstall 2/3 down, AmigaOne boot code(SLB) click Install, select slb_v?, Ok - accept changes.
