I did see the post of yours you mentioned on Aw.net which did indeed help me to get Delitracker working on the X1000 - thanks very much for this helpful information!
I also found some help previously for Delitracker on MorphOS. I knew from this process (before I got the X1000) that it closely matched your solution too minus the timerhack part - although the original help I got worked for MorphOS, it didn't work for AmigaOS4 when I did the same thing. I found (as you did) that you needed the timerhack extra step, which is where your extra steps in the solution got things happening on the X1000 for me.
As you mentioned, I wanted to expand your helpful information about Delitracker and the MorphOS help I got previously in my blog to make it a little bit more step by step (with images) for people who don't have as much AmigaOS knowledge as yourself, and also as a reference for myself and others in the future if I have to install it again!
In my experience I often find multiple Amiga forum sources on how to get something to work and the combination usually allows me to get things working.
I think collecting and expanding on all the little bits of information found across the Amiga internet forums in one place (my blog) makes it easier for me (and hopefully others) to find this information in the future. I hope it is useful for you too!

Yes it is and will be. Its a good practice to spread informations as wide as possible so you don´t have to search in serveral locations.
Your Delitracker Guide is well designed. I like especially the step-by-step-guide with the screenshots! This is how a good Tutorial should be created. Then the beginners and the pros can benefit from it.

You are most welcome - I am glad it worked for you. I have run delitracker in the background for many hours so far without noticing any issues with the X1000 so I guess the timerhack doesn't affect things too much.

I have updated my blog today to include a guide on how to view YouTube videos using MUI-OWB on the X1000. I hope this is of help to some of you!

Today I have added a game mini-review of Hurrican 1.0.6 using Wazp3D on the X1000.
It also includes some installation help for Wazp3D as part of the review for those who don't have it installed as yet - Wazp3D is needed to run Hurrican on the X1000 at the moment, until we have the 3D graphics drivers.
You can take a look at the lastest blog entry by clicking right here!
I hope you enjoy it!

I've read the test of Hurrican.
Regarding Wazp3D : you have to copy Wazp3d.cfg in the drawer of each program, not in SYS:Prefs. Otherwise, Wazp3D will create one for you and may not use the good options.
The config file I provided is the best working one I managed to get after many tests. If you copy it in the drawer of the game you want to play, you do not even have to launch Wazp3D-Prefs-PPC. The confil file I provided will be used automatically.
Please, do not forget to tell your readers who created Wazp3D (Alain Thellier)
The fact that you cannot see what you have selected in Hurrican menu is a Wazp3D limitation, not a Hurrican one (there is no such trouble with real Warp3D). The same goes for water, it's not a Hurrican limiation but a Wazp3D one (Alain will check this when he comes back from holiday).
Thanks for the test

Thanks for your feedback about the Hurrican test.
Regarding the Wazp3D.cfg, I did mention in the blog that the Wazp3D.cfg needed to be placed in the Hurrican folder to work.
Regarding the Prefs, to be honest I followed the config instructions of Wazp3D which said to use the prefs program to set Wazp3D.cfg, which then saves into the Prefs folder. As you say it is better to simply drop the Wazp3D.cfg file into whichever game folder requires it before running it for the first time.
I think ideally the Wazp3D prefs file editable from the Prefs program should be used as the default config file for all games (I thought that was the intention) to avoid having to drop Wazp3D.cfg files everywhere to make games work with the updated settings...
I have updated the Hurrican article to add Alain Thellier as the author of Wazp3D (sorry Alain) and the installation points for Wazp3D.cfg mentioned here.
Thanks for the further useful information!

Settings for MPlayer I gave in the blog for the DVD playback are correct to allow MPlayer to see the DVD drive on the X1000.
However, I didn't spend much time on this part to be honest as I don't normally playback DVD's on my X1000.
I playback mainly AVI's, MP4 and other format video files on the X1000 as they are smaller and don't require fiddling with DVD's.
That said, I tested it today and confirmed what you say - Mplayer doesn't work very well when reading from a physical DVD disc - audio stutters and video breaks up like a slideshow as you say .
On the surface I thought it looks like not enough buffer cache - I increased it to 20,000 instead of 8192 in Mplayer GUI settings but still terrible. I get the same result playing back DVD's from the registered DV Player software too so....hmmm.
l'll take another look at it when I have some more time to see what is going on with it.

Good written as always!
copy/paste from other thread:
10000 CPU cycles? 80486DX 33 MHz performance.
Could you do please some little tests for me? (my post 57)
About Windows 95: DosBox can boot this OS from filedisks (it is also much more safe than using regular directory tree). However, W95 needs more compatible CPU core than normal - eg. dynamic CPU core emulation which is not available for PowerPC versions. |

Are you saying that DVD (file) playback from the harddisk is fast, but from a real DVD drive it is slow? That would suggest the DVD drive is causing heavy CPU usage, which would mean it is using PIO mode rather than DMA mode.
You can check whether that is the case, by entering the following command into a Shell (and then reporting back what it says) : IDETool -l sb600sata.device
For each drive you should see a line something like this: Xfer mode : best pio 12 (PIO 4, 16 MB/s) / best dma 70 (UDMA 6, 133 MB/s) / current 70 (UDMA 6, 133 MB/s)
The relevant part is at the end of the line, where it says "current"._________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

Well unfortunately that is the behaviour I am seeing on the X1000 playing back DVD's.
I don't know why this is to be honest - it is weird behaviour. As I said previously I didn't notice it before because I don't play back physical DVD's on the X1000, I just use files which work fine as long as they are not HD.
I have applied today to get access to download the latest firmware for the X1000 from A-Eon and I hope to get a login soon. I didn't upgrade the firmware from when I got the X1000 and it is confirmed my firmware is not the current version. Would I expect to get any better result once I can download and update the firmware?
I ran the idetool command as you suggested...here is the verbose output (keep in mind I have two hard disks in the X1000 as well as the DVD drive - Unit 1 is the DVD):

I don't have too much time today, but I have changed the DOSBox.conf cpu cycles=max instead of 10,000 fixed. I also downloaded and installed the DOStests.zip you mentioned in the other thread.
I then ran the Dhrystone 2OD benchmark as suggested on the X1000 in DosBox.
The resulting file contents it produced I have included below for your reference:
-------------------- ----------------------------------- Dhrystone Benchmark Version 2.1 (Language: C++)

So what DOSbox cycle rate (PC CPU equivalent) should I be able to achieve with this setup?
Update: I confirm using the max cycles value is much better results in performance. Will do more testing later. Have updated the blog entry to reflect this update also.

Many, many thanks!
Well, that is roughly equal to 10000 CPU cycles. Interesting that it feels faster than with fixed settings. |
