I agree completely, and your analogy is sadly very true. It's rather like a woman, past the age of, say, 40... who isn't married and not in a long-term relationship. Trying to trust any man is nearly impossible, regardless of how good they look, how nice they seem "on the outside" and how well they string together a bunch of words and phrases...

Because, frankly, you just assume you'll get screwed yet again.

But that is no way to live your life. You have to open yourself up to the possibility that there really ARE nice and kind people in the world who actually WILL follow through on their word and their promises. Or you just turn bitter, cynical and hard. And kinda ugly, too.

So, I'm 'suggesting' -- don't lash out to avoid being hurt. Sit back, wait and see what transpires. It's a lot less energy, frustration and aggravation and, if later things DO turn out as promised, no one later has to eat their words.
