Awful news And to blame sourcing floppy disks as the major problem! The thing is, where there is a will there is a way and there just is no will. I guess he lost interest when Sony said they wouldn't help or source/fabricate the disks._________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." | I'd like to see some evidence the Amiga version is actually complete cause this has all the hallmarks of a cheap publicity stunt, even a 2:30 he admits it was a good thing the Amiga version never came out because the hype it generated added "pedigree" to his other products so looks like he's just trying the same crap again.

Well, not with 100 percent certainty yet, but i agree, it does seem like he is a liar.
But I do like to point out that quite many of the articles comments are not totally valid.
For example "Floppy disk" instead of "two floppy disks", well. guy havent been dealing with floppy disks for 20 years, perhaps he didnt recall it takes more than one, or then he was just cutting it by simply saying "floppy disk", meaning 1 or more.
and there were lots of lots of others similar ones that might have explanation in simply cutting a bit, which is not unusual in conversations. Sometimes you might even say something that can be considered even a lie after you know the full story, when in some certain situation you cut full story into one sentence.
This could be the situation with "problem of finding enough many floppy disks". Yes, We could provice them, Yes, he might need only hundred, Yes, I doubt Sony couldnt provide that...
But, maybe that is once again just short version.
- We could send them disks, yeah, but they wouldnt know the source of those.
- Not enough floppy disks, well, maybe they reguire some standard on it, that is hard to exist anymore nowadays that floppydisks are not done in such high volumes all around anymore.
- That Sony couldnt provide, well, maybe once again it is matter of their standard, not that they couldnt deliver, but maybe they reguire some standard, or maybe they think each copy should have one, and if they do, thats lot of money... etc.
But even when all this took into consideration, there are still quite many valid points, most mainly the retrogamer interview.
Of course there is still the possiblity that retrogamer have screwed the interview, which i doubt.
I do know newspapers tend to do most strangest of things, and even computer magazines (like Many Amiga magazines making reviews upon games they never even had a copy of), but i doubt retrogamer would have need, or otherwise either do it. |

That is the biggest bullshit I have ever heard. Floppies are ancient and outdated, but they can still be sourced and are even still at least one manufactor left. Take for example Norway.. Here big part of state includiing health care is still running such ancient systems with journals and such actually being stored on a floppy disk and sent by snail mail. This would not have been possible if they could not longer source any floppy disks.
And even if there was no floppy disks around they could still make it a adf image and distribute it on a cd. It is pretty clear that they were lying. |

Too true, Shame all this had to happen as the Amiga game would have made an awesome Christmas present! System 3 and Mark Cale are publicity seeking above all else and that sucks! If they wanted to get this done they could._________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Wow, this Codetapper chap keeps digging. Found this on the English Amiga Board. He contacted a journalist Matt Broughton from The One mgazine who reviewed Putty Squad back in the day! This was his response:
Quote:
Hi Ian - hope you are well. Needless to say it was long enough ago that I could be wrong on some of this, but as far as remember it was complete, and If it wasn't complete it was certainly pretty much there. I can for SURE we didn't review the demo as I know I had personally played te demo to death and remember very clearly being excited when we got the new disks and loaded up new content! I certainly don't remember it being a 'bits and pieces' review - which we sometimes had to do where the code came to us split up across disks and with very little polish in the way of menus, etc. so I think it was at least a near-finished version. I remember it being very good, very professionally put together, loading and flowing well etc etc. Disk-wise, again it's a little hazy but my immediate thought is it was on two floppies, but I think we actually had it installed on an A1200 hard disk as we were just starting at that time to get more games that was possible with (I think I still have one of the only versions on Microprose Pizza Tycoon sitting on my A1200!) So, basically I think what you're saying is correct: it was a finished master we reviewed from (or VERY close to it) and yes, I think it was on two floppies. I could look too closely at the forum as on my phone right now, but someone was suggesting the reason they thought the review was from the demo. There's a very good chance that they are right in that the screenshots COULD have been from the demo. Back then screengrabbing wasn't the breeze it is today, and sometimes we would do some grabbing for the assets we already had (ie preview code or demo code) and as long as the final game hadn't changed drastically we would use that for print. Especially if the game and in quite close to deadline and we wanted to spend as much time playing the game rather than grabbing and converting and editing (which was severe ball ache back in the day!) Hope that's of use/interest. Out on interest, why does anyone still care about this? Cheers Matt B |

And this brings another thing.
What is that Pizza Tycoon he mentions? Seems like another complete game that was never released. |

| Update here:
System 3 Facebook page
'Dear Amiga fans of Putty Squad
Further to our previous statement about Putty Squad for the Amiga, we’re pleased to bring you an update on where we are with the project.
We have provided the source code and mastering files to members of the Amiga community who are hard at work on them.
The objective is to produce an ADF file which will be available to download from our website this side of Christmas to to allow the game to be played on the Amiga 1200 or on Amiga emulators. We intend to allow the game to be written to a floppy disk so that people who still have a traditional old Amiga with floppy disk will also be able to enjoy the game.
We are doing everything that we can to make this happen but as you can appreciate it is not entirely in our control how quickly this is achieved. However, please be assured that our objective is to give the game back to the Amiga community, for free, as soon as possible.
Sincerely
John Twiddy System 3'

Great news! Maybe they finally got the message that the old Amiga fans are the only ones this game REALLY appeals to. IGN haven't even bothered to review or even list Putty Squad for the PS4

Small or suspicious? I welcome the news, but will hold off on the celebrations until I see some non System3 confirmation. Last edited by Xmas87 on 07-Dec-2013 at 09:01 AM. Last edited by Xmas87 on 07-Dec-2013 at 09:01 AM.

Yeah, like whos the Amiga Community guys supposedly having them?
But basically I think this is good news anyway, at least it should be bit hard for him to lie out of this.
Besides, there is no cost in ADF, so not many lies left to say. |
