Hope I remember to time a 3.x.x kernel build on Nemo, just for info.

I compiled an AmigaOne kernel on my X1000 under Ubuntu Linux and it took 15 minutes. Forget version, may have been 3.10.

Same compile on AmigaOne I think was at least an hour and most likely two.

Hi All,

I've released the Linux kernel 3.14.1 for the A1-X1000.

ChangeLog-3.14.1

Download: vmlinux-3.14.1-AmigaOneX1000.tar.bz2

Note: The RC 1 of the kernel 3.15 doesn't boot currently. See http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2419

Rgds,

Christian

I've released the kernel 3.14.1 with PR KVM support.

Quote:
Support running guest kernels in virtual machines on processors without using hypervisor mode in the host, by running the guest in user mode (problem state) and emulating all privileged instructions and registers. This is not as fast as using hypervisor mode, but works on machines where hypervisor mode is not available or not usable, and can emulate processors that are different from the host processor, including emulating 32-bit processors on a 64-bit host.

@xeno74

Your kernel is most actively maintained. I wonder if at this point one were to chose one Linux kernel to use on their X1000, would this one be the best to use? Such as me.

Also, with your kernel, are the device mappings upset by USB sicks being inserted? On whatever kernel I use on the X1000 I cannot boot with a USB sick inserted. Because all the /dev/sda device mappings are messed up and it cannot find my root volume. It's quite annoying to fiddle around and wonder why it is happening, checking HD cables and thinking the the cable has come lose, only to realise after half an hour that a USB stick was left in the slot.

For some reason the Linux kernel has no problem with the USB stick inserted in my Apple kerboard hub that it loads the kernel off. I meant to change my root line to label or UUID to avoid this as well.

@Hypex

Sometimes, I have the same trouble with the USB sticks like you.

Anyway, I have released the bugfix version 2 of the Vanilla kernel 3.14.

Download: vmlinux-3.14.2-KVM-PR-AmigaOneX1000.tar.bz2

The kernel 3.14.2 includes:

- KVM_BOOK3S_64_PR

Support running guest kernels in virtual machines on processors without using hypervisor mode in the host, by running the guest in user mode (problem state) and emulating all privileged instructions and registers.
This is not as fast as using hypervisor mode, but works on machines where hypervisor mode is not available or not usable, and can emulate processors that are different from the host processor, including emulating 32-bit processors on a 64-bit host.

- 3dfx Voodoo graphics card support
- Network support for AROS hosted
- Support for 4 serial ports
- Bluetooth USB dongle support
- Linux kernel icon for OS4.1 by Tommysammy

New:

- Kernel tracing with ftrace

The kernel 3.14.4 includes:

- KVM_BOOK3S_64_PR

Support running guest kernels in virtual machines on processors without using hypervisor mode in the host, by running the guest in user mode (problem state) and emulating all privileged instructions and registers.
This is not as fast as using hypervisor mode, but works on machines where hypervisor mode is not available or not usable, and can emulate processors that are different from the host processor, including emulating 32-bit processors on a 64-bit host.

Does this mean MoL works now? Also, can MoL as non-KVM build work?

Yes, that's right. If you have a G4 or G5 cpu you can use KVM with hypervisor mode. Link: PowerPC G4 virtualization with KVM. You have to choose it in the kernel config. For the PA6T cpu you have to choose PR KVM without using the hypervisor mode. You have to compile the SVN version of MOL.

@xeno74

Good job. Thanks for the info. I have an X1K but my A1 only has a G3. Still working on getting that compiled for newer A1 kernels but all it wnats to do is break and give me yet another error in the code once I fix a problem.

They're up to Sid now? That Mate looks like Ubuntu. But better, as it has menus.

"sid" is the unstable version of Debian, where the actual development takes place. If a package is mature enough it will appear in testing and after it has been tested enough in stable. That also means that sid usually provides the most up-to-date software, then comes testing and as the last one stable (or stale, as some people like to call Debian stable).

I guess KVM only works in paravirtualized mode on G3 and G4 CPUs. IIRC the hypervisor mode is limited to some of the 64bit CPUs.

I think KVM should work on G3 CPUs as well (given that G4 CPUs are mainly G3 CPUs with Altivec).
