For one thing, it is a video format, not an audio format. Another is that it is a hardware bitmap format, so rather advanced above a file format.
How about CDXL? That must be lossy, surely (well, it's HAM at least )? Although I rather suspect MPEG1 pre-dates it, not to mention other stuff like JPEG and MJPEG.
