@fastbit66

monitors in storage are NEVER used, only DEVS:Monitors/ is used.
Check in there, you should only have ONE monitor file.

I didnt notice it earlier but, it seems that creating a new drawer I get an old ugly non OS4 looking drawer icon.

Going to replace the def icon...

edit: ok, replaced the def icon. It's fine now. I got no idea what happend.... It isnt a bug or mistake present in FE is it ?

The basic install of FE went fine on my A1XE. Today I've been adding things back in from my backup.

However. . .

My Catweasel MK3 no longer works. The driver was already present in Devs. I've checked the prefs in System:Prefs If I play with SuperDiskImage the head on the floppy will move, but it won't read anything.

On update 6, the floppy LED lit toward the end of the boot process, and the card/floppy drive functioned normally.

Any ideas?

Paul

@Paul

Have you added a dosdriver from storage ? Catweasel is a contribution so you may need to contact the author.

@All

As the search function here leaves a lot to be desired, I hope this hasn't already been answered.

Installing FE on my Peg2. I get about 50% installed and it hangs with an error.

Volume AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition is write protected

Process 69 "Installation Utility"

On Libbz2.so

Any ideas on a work around?

@smf

I have tried this from within the installer. It stays at 0% indefinitely.

UPDATE : Booted into OS from CD and it is allowing me to format my drive. Hope this works. Thanks.

At least in my fresh installation on my X1000, the correct def_drawer icon is present. Which machine type are you on?

@JurassicC

I added a few items. I had cw.device besides the catweasel.device that was already in there, and some DOS drivers for the floppy disks. One or the other got it going. Thanks

Paul

@broadblues

Yes but since I did put my time on formating all JXFS-partitions to SFS/02 and copying/moving files I didn't care about this little glitch and once I was done it dissapered so what do you want me to do? Put all partitions back to JXFS and to a frest install of AOS 4.1 FE just to see if it happens again? Like I wrote, it solved itself for whatever reason and it isn't an issue and it wasn't a complaint. I'm happy. If you wanna digg deeper (I doubt it) then you know what state my machine was in when it happend. Personaly I'm (again) happy. Don't be so sensetive as soon as I mention something that isn't right. Do I seem upset?

Well how about now:

@Hypex

I have a 400W psu so may be worth considering a larger one. The memory I have is a 512m dimm as supplied by Eyetech with the board, it's certainly the correct buffered type but could be dodgy though I have had similar results with other memory. It's plugged into the second dimm socket as the first is extremely bad. I have also changed the battery so that is fresh but the machine now goes straight to the bios settings after its initial checks even with no key pressed.

The FSB settings are more stable at 100Mhz hence the 600Mhz under-clock. I stripped the machine yesterday and started from scratch at full speed and the workbench crashed on load. The first OS reboot resulted in the start-up jingle but a black screen and the next the jingle was interrupted but screen was ok as the audio crashed. After a full reboot it all loaded but Amiupdate crashed.

After leaving it for a few minutes running the simple memory test in Uboot it loaded ok and stayed ok until I switched off. Not tried it yet today.

@Arnie

Is your cpu-cooling + fan properly fitted ? Especialy the connection between the cooling block and the CPU ! There has to be heat conducting paste between it.

@Arnie

Yeah that PSU sounds a but low. Then again I had a PSU which was 380W IIRC which was fine with a G4, but it wasn't clear what power it output. And it just died out of the blue at an Amiga meeting. Funnily enough someone had a spare, exact model as mine, LOL. How old is your PSU?

For now you may be forced to lower the speed again. I don't like to see an A1 like this!

I've seen that UBoot problem here sometimes. A reboot tends to fix it up for the moment. So your autoboot variables are okay? Fairly standard setup, no major changes?

RAM should be okay but maybe try taking it out, making sure it's clean. What happened to your first slot?

A good way to test memory is to boot a Linux kernel. Tends to trip up straight away on a problem.
