@WolfToTheMoon

You obviously didn't read my post then. What about the other small things I said, i.e. the ideas for AmigaOS.org? Those are easy to do and would help at least a bit.

@umisef

I didn't say copy in 2015, I said that they need to work on improving AmigaOS and adding new features and *then* there can be things to copy.

But even so, there are some things that AOS 4 does that Linux does not but I have a few other important things to do now so I will come back to that later today or tomorrow.

not mainstream market leader, however with a good amount of AROS ports even on non-standard 68k platforms like falcon, x68000, old world macs, etc. could be a Retro hobbyist OS leader, but forget big amount of cash, will be just the honor...

Which effectively means, it would be easier to add any remaining AmigaOS features to Linux and have a completely updated circa 2015 operating system. Improving AmigaOS is a monumental effort.

In the meantime (and with no intended disrespect), new hardware is being produced.

@ne_one

If that were the case, then I'd be ditching computer forever. I've been a Linux user since 2008 and while I like Linux, it's far from stable. And I have used multple distros on multiple computers that I had over the years. IN FACT: earlier this year, I bought a System76 laptop. System76 picks their hardware to work out-of-the-box with Ubuntu *and* ships Ubuntu by default. You'd expect it to be stable then. But no, it wasn't and still isn't.
AmigaOS 4.1 on the other hand is much more stable for me. And mind you, I'm using an AmigaOne 500, which is not even a high-end Amiga. So that says a lot.

So no, please don't ditch AOS for Linux, you'd lose me as a computer user then (Win sucks, OSX sucks but only because I don't like Apple's behavior and the fact that OSX is turning into iOS which I don't like at all, Haiku is nice but not stable and WiFi is hard to set up, KolibriOS is nice but missing critical software and doesn't work on most computers, Icaros is really nice but doesn't work on most computers, SkyOS was really nice but it's dead now). I tried most OS's out there over the years, some of them like Haiku got another look from me recently.
So as you see, I did try a lot and of everything, I like AOS 4.1 the best and it's also the most stable for me.

I respect your opinion, but please don't push me into something I don't want.

---------

Btw, it seems like no one on here likes my simple ideas for the AOS website :(

Why "Win sucks"?

just out of principle or do you have real reasons?

@OlafS25

It sucks because it's not too stable for me (but not really unstable per se) and esp. 'cause I can't work with it. 7 was okay-ish, 8.1 was not bad on a tablet but awful on a laptop and 10 is just really awful to work with. It's the interface that I can't work with. And some apps are not intuitive either. And it also used a lot of RAM on my laptop (my laptop uses 2015 hardware with 4 GB of RAM and a really good video card and other OS's are much lighter on its RAM, so it's not a hardware lackluster or hardware issue).
But it's mostly the interface (8.1 on a laptop, 10 on everything) that I just find unintuitive, which harms my productivity.

@Vistaus

there is a opnsource-tool called "classic shell" that makes Win 8 (and propably also Win 10 I have not searched recently) that makes Win 8 looking like Win 7. The same gui, the same programs at the same places like in Win 7. I use it on two computers. Really good.

description here:
http://www.classicshell.net/

it seems Win 10 is now also supported

page here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/

it seems http://www.classicshell.net/ is the official page

download from german site here:
http://www.chip.de/downloads/Classic-Shell_39396490.html

use "manuelle installation"

@Vistaus: AOS more solid than Linux, and Windows unstable? Do you really believe on what you says?

True or not it doesn' t really matter it is a question of enjoyment here.
And yes that can be the exact feeling when you use OS4, why not?

@cdimauro

???

I see it must be difficult for you to accept that someone is actually enjoying his OS4 system ... and we are more than you can imagine.

Take it easy, it is life

I forgot, don' t say this is a personal attack ;)

FE is de facto Update 8 as Update 7 was internal release.

@pavlor

thanks lost track but glad that FE is the standard base for 4.1 now as you don't have to install all those updates when/if doing a fresh install of 4.1

I see that it must be difficult for you to accept the reality: what happens with a fragile o.s. which lacks any protection.
