@olegil

Well, I did say I was just thinking about it.

Right now my A1 is stable at 1 GHz with the recent changes of upgrading firmware to the Sii3114-bootable UBoot and moving everything over to a SATA drive on that 3114. It's been up for over 10 days, last I checked (had to reboot it for some reason, not due to stability issues).

If it stays this stable, I'd consider trying some higher multipliers just to see what I can get out of this 933 MHz 7455.

@Crisot

I agree with olegil, that is AWESOME!

Nice that it's as simple as removing a resistor. Though I would rather it was switched. so I would likely remove the resistor (and try to keep it in one piece) then wire up a switch for connecting/disconnecting that resistor to make the adjustments easier.

@Crisot

Do you know if that resistor is a pull-up or pull-down for that pin? Might be simpler to just connect a switch to the right place with the resistor in place depending on the circuit.

Cool! So, to add to my already too long list of things to do, I have a broken a1xe (problem uncertain) and a broken MicroA1 with a cracked cpu die, and almost enough bga tools to work with.

What new g4 chip should I get for the xe? I think I have an exact swap for the g3 module on a mac somewhere, I just need to find them again.

My Freescale MC7457@1267MHZ CPU runns fine with 1533MHZ.

I have set the mulitplicators to:
x11.5 on on on on = 1533MHZ and VCore from 1.34 Volt to 1.39Volt (on off off off).

@Evillord68

Ok, I won't deny that I think it's awesome that you got it working. But in no way will I support the idea of overclocking a G4 that much. I'm advocating replacing the chip with a 1.4 or 1.5 if it needed replacement anyway.

I hope you have enough cooling for that, and a plan for what to do once the chip blows up, as it is bound to do sooner or later

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

That empty space on the module, is that L3 cache?

@Evillord68

Nice that you have got a faster chip As a replacement the 7457 is much more heat tolerant than its predecessor the 7455, I have not dared alter the vcore above 1.3 volts but then I do not need more than a small graphic chip cooler to keep it cooled now. As I read further back the constraints of the rest of the motherboard do not allow for much faster processing anyway, but congrats on the speed increase all the same.

Time for an update,

I finally replaced the PSU on my A1, and tried all 3 of the upgraded CPU modules. Unfortunately none of them work. So after several months I am no closer to a G4 upgrade than when I started.

I have a couple of things that may have gone wrong. I do not know 100% if the donor G4s were working, but I was informed they did come from know working Macs.

Also I did have problems with the place that did the CPU swapping over. He stopped communicating for a few months, and only did the work after I threatened to contact paypal about it. So he may have just done a rush job to get it completed.

Not sure where to go from here as the few people that successfully did A1 swaps don't seem to do them anymore.

Oh well. I don't actually use my A1 much anymore and I may now consider selling it if I can't get a cpu upgrade done.
