i actually disagree. t1 has sata and graphics, but neither are good enough for more than a basic laptop or something. once you add an SB for io and gpu for graphics you might as well support t2. so t2081 has a use, but not in ALL designs, obviously.

Actually, not all T1s have an SATA controller.
The PCI-e link to the graphics card would have to be limited to four lanes like the SAM460.
There is another way to connect a sound chip (outside of PCIe) that Freescale has pointed out to me.
But I don't want to get into a long discussion at that right now.

Yes, the T2s are a better solution.
They also cost a lot more.
A T1 based system should be doable at below SAM460 prices.

@AmigaBlitter

The biggest problem with that kind of project is that you can just plug a standard audio card into an expansion slot.

Ok we our half way through September now. Where is the new X5000 will it see 2015 or will it be late and go into 2016?

Don't like it when Amiga news goes quiet.

September through now - no X5000 release.
But, well, doesn't matter that much eventually and is not of too much surprise. We'll see when it'll get released.

Wow, not much content in that one.
Any videos that show the X5000 actually DOING something?

@iggy

I think most people were to preocupied with the presentations and chatting to other users. I know I certainly was. I only took 2 photos in Amsterdam, one was looking out to see and the other was of sailing ship on it's way out of the canal.

Didn't do much better at the UK show either but I did get to see a port of a certain game from 2001 running with Matt trying to load as many other programs in a futile attemp to slow the system down.

On paper the E5500 has better specs than the PA6T and from what I've seen so far it certainly seems to translate well into the real world on the X5000.
I'm looking to seeind some thorough benchmarking when it gets into the hands of end users.

All it was doing is running a ß version of AmigaOS 4.1. Nothing yet optimised for the X5000 so for all intents and purposes it is the same as an X1000.

Come to think of it, a more apt name for the machine would be X1000 Mark II.
In 3 or so years from now, when the OS can support, and there is software that can take advantage of nay requires the 64bit and multicore architecture, perhaps then you will be able to see the X5000 outshine the X1000.

Or I suppose one could see the difference in Linux, but that wouldn't be really appropriate for a 30th anniversary Amiga gathering now would it?

@agami

I'd be willing to bet that even un-optimized, applications run better on the X5000.
I have been following the processors based on the e5500 core since its announcement.
From that day on it seem that those chips were ideal replacements for the PA6T.

Hopefully we get a Y10XX based board as well.
And then maybe a T2080 based system?

The X5000 will be there, and MorphOS will be shown running on it!

So, just budget there, (either the x1000 or x5000) and cover all bases (grin)

"The price, while still aimed at the Amiga power user, will probably be less expensive that the AmigaOne X1000."

Key words:

"Probably" (should be, hopefully, not certain though)
"less expensive" (speaking relatively)
"the AmigaOne X1000" (~€3000 EUR)

Indeed! The cost for R&D (including testing) is what will set the price in micro-volumes like what we are talking about here, rather than the bill of materials. Especially so since they are paying for outsourced R&D.

So in the end it depends how much time it has taken to develop and test the thing!

As discussed several times in the past, there'll never be a (real, fully) 64-bit version of AmigaOS.

@AmigaBlitter

I don´t think A-Eon will realease another 3000 USD computer alongside X5000. Judging by small hints by Trevor and co, their next goal could be more affordable hardware - cooperation with ACube announced long ago makes perfect sense there.

yes, actually, even though when jesting, i didnt actually mean aeon but the other company, which is my fault indeed. too late to correct though.

what concerns x5000 i hope eur 2.300 is the price for the whole system with everythig not contained onboard, like graphics or sound.

2300 EUR is still a lot of money... and for what? A complete system or just mainboard + OS license?
