You can install Linux on it then it is ok again :). Of course not what most people in community would buy it for. |

Another Amiga I cant afford. Just hope Acube can come up with a good new Sam in the £500 price range soon. Not much point saying its dual core and 64bit when the OS does not support any of it. OS4.2 with multi core support is long over due. _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

So £426 cheaper than the base price for the X1000.

| Too bad, this is way too expensive for me. I love my AONE500 but a little more power would be nice. I've thought about selling it and buying the X1000 last year, but this year, I don't have the money for something that's gonna cost more than 1000 euros. So looks like I'll have to stick with my AONE500 for now (which, again, isn't bad but the more power the better ;)). _________________ Proud user of AmigaOS 4.1 on an AmigaONE 500. it was obvious that it would be pricey too. Most of the costs are hardware development and driver development that have to be covered by a small numbers of calculated sold machines. On custom hardware that is mass produced that is of course no problem. So any option ever offered will be expensive. Acube produces and sells embedded hardware so the hardware might be cheaper but is weak compared to standard hardware. People that want to buy new PPC hardware have to accept the price, either weak cheaper hardware or expensive custom hardware. |

T1042 SoC from Freescale would be ideal for such new SAM (or A1) - it is cheaper and much more powerful than 460EX (1.4 GHz e5500, 2x SATA, PCIe 2.0 etc.). However, until 4.2 release, there would be 3 idle cores...

RAM disk supports extended memory objects, so you may use 2+ GB RAM this way. |

This applies to any low-volume produced hardware - see prices of FireBee or ARMini. I don´t think we could get lower than SAM price this way. |

another problem for a-eon... if I look in the forums people do not trust promises anymore because of all the limitations and missing drivers around X1000 and the promised but not delivered 4.2. It is surprising for me anyway that (after X1000) still is enough need for another expensive PPC hardware. |

More surprising, after Natami fiasco, there is still market for another expensive FPGA hardware.

hmm
X1000 at least became more than some prototype systems even though only partly supported
BTW Natami indeed would have become expensive, if manufactured in low numbers it would have been in a price range of a good new standard PC. But certainly some would have bought it.

Congratulations to Trevor and Matthew, that's a better price than expected from previous hints (dare I say "managing expectations" ). Looking forward to seeing some benchmsrks.
PS - That facebook link is invalid, it should be www.a-eon.com/x5000 PPS - (Not very often I get to say this, savour the moment) - The products page on a-eon.com needs updating: the Warp3D RadeonHD driver needs updating from "coming soon" to "current". _________________ Troll - n., A disenfranchised former potential customer who remains interested enough to stay informed and express critical opinions. opp., the vast majority who voted silently with their feet. |

Yeah of course. Problem is it is presented as a computer for running AmigaOS4, not a general purpose computer.
It's not a biggy, and I'm sure *everyone* buying one will know what they are getting themselves into. It just comes across as a little... dishonest.

God save me, I might make Vox's mistake on this one myself. But not without some reservations. It seems obvious that NG will eventually move completely to X64, should I buy another PPC based system?
I think yes, this will be the best so far, and a T10XX based solution would only improve on price.
Two or four cores, fast, best and possibly last platform? Might as well.
AND, as a final note, I probably won't be running IOS4.X either, so the question of a discount is valid. As is the question of how much the MorphOS development team will ask for their OS as keys for that product do not have a uniform price. Last edited by iggy on 03-Oct-2015 at 09:32 PM.

This doesn't mean that you're using 64 bits. A 64-bit o.s. and/or applications is a totally different thing.
In fact, the extended memory objects use a feature of 32-bit PowerPCs, that enable to access physical memory above the (normal) 4GB limit. There's absolutely no "64-bit" involved here.

Well, I think exactly the opposite: finally they are honest and transparent regarding the fact that this is an AmigaOS computer.
They also put again the "One" word with the same font size used for "Amiga". At least looking at the marketing picture: we need to see if it's the same in all other places (firmware, manuals, case, etc.). |
