Then don't watch it, simple as that.

@tlosm

I'm happy for you, but please pay more attention to lighting in your videos. That backlight was atrocious.

@thread
I'm sure y'all have anecdotes of static damaging components, but I have been handling electronic components without ESD protection since the '70s and never had any issues.

@agami

The obvious protection requirements are sufficient: don't shuffle your feet on nylon carpet while wearing plastic footwear, have something earthy on the table that you can touch before you touch the board, don't move on the chair without earthing yourself again, etc, etc.

Wearing leather underwear is a definite no-no.

I did blow up a FET once, back in the 70's, but nothing since then. At my last job, an office full of kids tried to convince me that every time you touch a PC board, slight damage is done, and the damage is cumulative. I was unconvinced and they treated me as an uneducated idiot.

I work assembly when the phone does not ring and work with sensitive stuff. Concrete floor, metal grounded table, no problem ever!

We lived in Reno Nevada for 2 years, hated the fact that we got zapped just opening a door. I got in the habit of touching any metal with my car key, it was that bad there.

I was on my way to work one morning, kissed my wife goodby, I was charged, she was grounded...she chased me out of the house.

there i had been assembled sam, amiga ones , pcs , and open and fixed some new last gens macs.

im sure the x5000 will not have problems the board is really solid and components are not like a mini itx last gen pcs ...

ps: 99% of esd come because the foor ... i dont have a moquet or carpets and use shoes.

I used to work with a girl who generated a lot of static. She would prank people by shocking them with it. It was fairly mild but one of the girl would scream and practically jump out of her chair. You could actually see it arc so I took a multimetre in one day and managed to read a tiny current from her.

@AmigaBlitter

Thanks AmigaBlitter for the effort of producing the unboxing video. The only thing is I cringed when I saw how you were handling the board - i thought you may be blowing it up with static from your hands :)

Hope it all works when you put it together.

Congratulations and enjoy the Amiga X5000 :)

@tlosm

We should all understand the basics of electricity before working with electronics. The following video has a great section on static electricity.

@ESD'ers

Personally I've never had a problem with ESD and have noticed that left handed people rarely do (yes, I'm a leftie).

As for wawa, we all know why he's so upset... The cardboard box wasn't big enough for him to play in.
