2D and 3D hardware acceleration will come to these cards. Maybe for the next release even (3.10). Or atleast for 3.12. It is being worked on as we speak. And it will not cost extra

There is no hardware shortage for MorphOS either. My Mac is something like ten years old but i could replace that to new SAM460 (with MorphOS supported gfx card) or x5000 (real soon now).

Anyway, i may confess that i find the future of ppc shorter than the future of amiga.

@Nicsoft

Regardless of the SAM situation, your argument about MorphOS relying on old machines is entirely academic. There's no practical impact or downside for MorphOS users. PPC Macs are great quality, cheap and available in abundance.

Don't get me wrong - it's great that people make new hardware for OS4 and I'm pleased that you're pleased with yours, but it's not a stick to beat MorphOS with. There's nothing wrong with MorphOS relying on Macs at all. IMO, your posts are just one-upmanship.

That's what I'm waiting for... (What took the drivers so long..?)
The result would be: AmigaOS, MorphOS and Linux capability on the same HW!

Let's just hope FREESCALE can develop PPC further, then at least I'll be satisfied...

Maybe I got the one-upmanship bit wrong then, sorry. Hope it happens for you!

@clebin

I have had this "one-upmanship" feeling regarding some of our friends...
That all Operating Systems other than MorphOS is sh*t!

"Some of our friends", fair enough, but the person you named before you edited your post was talking about doing a development for both OS4 AND MorphOS so I think you've got that wrong.

@Nicsoft

They didn't start working on those cards before they ported G5:s with PCI-e cards a few years back. But once they started it became the basis for the more modern Radeon HD drivers. That probably saved some time.

The other answer to your question is because drivers don't get made by the push of a button. And MorphOS Team refure to release something they don't consider finished. Beacause even with this philosophy bugs tend to slip in.

I guess I'm not particularly shocked, but these are all basically existing solutions that would need to be extended and enhanced.

How about "Alternative/other/AmigaOS NG"?

Neither with the current drivers for OS4 and less with this unstable board.

OK, of course. But I have had usable Radeon HD drivers for AmigaOS 4 on my Sam460ex since 2011.

Right now my Systems:
AmigaOS 4.1 FE.
Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Windows 7 Pro
***

And waiting for "a finished" MorphOS for Sam460ex...

I tried MorphOS on my Sam460ex. Sad to say it but, useless until this (below) is fixed!

- Radeon HD2400/HD3450 (no 2D/3D acceleration)
- Radeon HD4350/HD4550/HD4650 (no 2D/3D acceleration)
- Radeon HD5450 (no 2D/3D acceleration)
- Radeon HD6450/HD6570/HD7570 (no 2D/3D acceleration)

Without drivers, the OS is not an option really (at least for now)...

It's true that the usable MorphOS Radeon HD drivers aren't available yet. But they'll come.

On the other hand, OS4 relies (AFAIK) on third party drivers sold separately, and the 3D performance isn't very good, even an old Radeon 9800 on a 400MHz Efika runs OS4/Radeon HD 7xxx to the ground.

AFAIK MorphOS drivers has always outperformed their OS4 counterparts. We'll see how it turns out this time...

Only two more weeks!

Regarding 3D:
From AROS point of view with "nouveau" it is like looking at two caveman trying to use a wheel the first time.. Funny at first but boring the longer you look at ; )

I do understand your particular wish to be able to dual boot or to use the H/W (GFX card) you already have, but aside from that (in the context of MorphOS being available for "New H/W" in the shape of Sam) there are already fully supported GFX cards that fits in a Sam...

I'm not denying what you say about other posters, but you need to reflect on your own posts too. Do you think the above is any different, really?

@Nicsoft

Not hw accelerated 3D. That didn't come until this (last?) year, and it's not free. Besides, the comparison is unfair as there was no port of MorphOS to SAM 460 until 2015. Full hw accelerated 2D/3D has existed for their recommended cfx cards for forever.
