@samo79
Odyssey for Aros is based on Webkit r183664 from 2015. OS4 is based on r155188 WebKit from 2013 (or maybe I am wrong). MorphOS is based on r161078 from 2014 but also has workaround for flex-css so sites don't look like a garbage (saw similar patches in os4 owb source code from 2020 so os4 version also should looks ok).

@rzookol

Yeah, core on current AROS release is 1 year newer or so, but nowadays the compatibility with the sites is roughly similar.
In addition to the core, the set of libraries used for compilation also counts, in this sense both the AROS and OS4 versions have been recompiled with relatively recent libraries

Really sorry to bring this thread back on topic for just one moment, not that it hasn't been interesting and spectacular off in the wilderness as it were, but just wondering if this A1222222+ thing was ever actually being produced?

Last I heard some vendor was calling around in the hopes of finding someone interested in buying the thing but seems maybe their phone got disconnected or something.

And before some self-righteous gets on their high hobby horse about "are you going to buy one" or some-such garbage - no, I won't buy one, but I'm still curious about how high the mountain of BS resting under this thing can get!

They were contacting people who had bought the AAA bundle and therefore had more than registered an interest in buying. It would be totally unreasonable not to have contacted those people first.

Your claim that they were cold calling random people is nonsense, that of course, is because you're are not a good faith actor in this discussion.

The A1222+ was listed as available earlier today on amigakit.fr, but now it says that it is currently not available:

In any case, Odyssey on MorphOS is obsolete and abandoned (removed from the OS installation too), because Wayfarer has replaced it as the main browser on the platform. The current Wayfarer uses WebKitGTK from this month and is updated regularly to new engine versions, its compatibility on web pages is much higher than with Odyssey.

So I see! Perhaps things are as Rob claims, AAA buyers were offered first stab at the A1222+ and now the stock is gone. Really odd how nobody has crowed about getting their order in though, but maybe all those AAA purchasers are on the speculative side of things and want to make some money on flipping such a "rare" system!

It turns out it was not sold out. AmigaKit explained it on Amigans.net:

Quote:
No, AmigaKit FR is getting ready for general sale. First stock arriving is for Early Adopters very shortly. A date for non-early adopters will be added to the webstore in the next week or so.

@AmigaOldskooler

Thanks for the clarification, but thanks even more for linking to that thread with this gem in it:
closed off / propriety software [Discord] that the owners seemingly refuse to port to AmigaOS

Yes, web browsers are very closed off and "propriety", dontcha know! Heck if they weren't it's almost like a big World Wide Web thing would be easily accessible to everyone!

Yeah I know this guy was referring to the Discord app itself, but given that your typical Discord user won't be eligible for a driver's license for a couple more years and likely has never even heard of an AmigaOS it doesn't seem like something worth wasting support on. Does AmigaOS run on a phone? I know Ben Hermans wanted OS4 to but that didn't take off so well as I recall.

It was working a few days ago but only on the France site. On the Aussie site A1222 couldn't even be found with a search. Does this mean it's only available for French people? They must have sold like hot cakes! Exclusively available in France for a short time. Unobtanium elsewhere.

I'm genuinely interested to know people's opinions of it on arrival. Not for schadenfreude, just to understand whether it meets the expectations of the buyer.

My understanding is it's going to have issues running anything that requires the standard FPU and will need recompiled binaries to get around that.

@Karlos

Yeah, I'm interested in people's opinions too! It's equivalent to the A500 starting development in 1985/86 (after the A1000 bombed) and not being released until 1996! Oh how Amigans options and expectations change during that length of time! I'm surprised we are not talking about launch titles such as Tower57 Part 3, Spencer 2000 and a Wings Remastered Remake with Enhanced SPE FPU compatibility!!!

I'm not one to go around telling people " I told you so", though given my frequent bouts of Cassandra Syndrome, a bit of private schadenfreude can be a calming salve.

That said, I don't expect it from this "sunk cost" bunch. Not for several months anyway.
