Hello and greetings from the Canadian west coast!

I'm not new to Amiga computers, I've had an Amiga since December of 1985, the A1000. I recently decided I wanted to get back to using them after a hiatus so I began my Amiga restoration project. I also wanted to archive my floppy disk collection before they deteriorate and to educate my daughter (who is 8) that there are more to computers than PC's, Apples, tablets, and smart phones. Right now I have two A3000's, my original that I've had since early '91, that is now in a tower case, and my second that was given to me by a friend who wanted it to go to a good home.

This is how my systems are set up at the moment.

- Amiga 3000D (rev 8.9) towerized into an Elbox Mirage3000 case
- Amiga 1010 external floppy
- 3.1 ROM
- Cyberstorm MKII 060/50 with 128MB
- 16MB with a ZIP to SIMM converter
- WD Rev 08 SCSI chip
- Buster 11
- 2MB Chip
- VLab Zorro card
- Prelude sound card with MPegIt module
- Mediator 3000D
- Radeon 9200 with 256MB
- Spider II
- 100Mb RTL 8139 network card
- 2 x 18GB IBM Ultrastar hard drives
- Plextor 40X CD-Rom
- Yamaha 4416 CD burner
- KDS 19" CRT with dual inputs
- SFS on all partitions
- Boot partitions with OS3.9 and OS3.9 with AmiKit
- External USB 300GB HD
- External USB card reader and hub

- Amiga 3000D (rev 9.03) in orignal case
- 3.1 ROM
- A3640 with Quad Doubler
- 16MB with ZIP
- 2MB Chip
- 256MB ZoRAM
- WD Rev 08 SCSI chip
- Buster 11
- Picasso IV
- X-Surf 100
- 18GB IBM Ultrastar hard drive
- NEC external SCSI CD-Rom
- SFS on all partitions
- Boot partition of OS3.1, OS3.9, OS3.9 with AmiKit

Me, I do system and application design and architecture, system admin across our AIX and Solaris servers, database design and admin, senior lead C developer, and if needed COBOL (yes, COBOL is still used), along with a bunch of other stuff that would bore the socks off most people.

Cheers,

Darin.

Hello and welcome.

Well you certainly don't need any advice on upgrading. Both systems are pretty well specced.

@DofD

Welcome to AW.net!

Nice setups you have there. I used to have an A3000D and I know exactly how hard it is to work inside that case to upgrade it - respect!

@DofD

Nice gear!

Welcome to Amiga.org, hope you stay for a long time.

Good luck with educating your 8 year old daughter about Amiga computers. My youngest Son is about to turn 21 and I failed miserably in trying to get him interested in the Amiga when he was that age (or any age before and after 8).

Now he is starting to show some interest in computers and programming (instead of console games), because he is unsure of what he wants to do for a career and realizes that no matter what he ends up doing, learning about computers can only help him.

Welcome and salutations.

Don't tell me there is another super man? Wait, or is that super unknown? In any case I keep seeing a superman logo with some avatars.

Thst's a nice setup there. Quite a modern piece of kit for an old Amiga.

LOL. Your 8 year old daughter already knows about all that?

Guess I shouldn't be surprised. The world we live in.

Now you mentioned AIX, that wouldn't be on PowerPC would it? Oh, just wishful thinking.

Yeah, it's hard to say how interested she will be, but we'll see. She likes science and math so I might sneek some learning in be teaching her something like LOGO on it. And maybe one day something like C-Robots.

@Hypex

Yep, they teach how to use computers and tablets in her school.

As long as they also teach how to do things the old fashioned way with math, etc, as well, I'm okay with that.

On AIX, yep, PPC 601, 603, 604, POWER 2, 5, and 7. The PowerPC machines only go up to AIX 5.3 though. I've got 2 F50's running 604e's at 333MHz. If I had a CS PPC I'd be tempted to swap the CPU and oscillator to see what sort of performance I could get. Well, once those machines get retired anyway.

@PR

Yeah, my daughter likes the Angry Birds, Despicable Me, Bewjeweled and a few others on our phones and tablets.

I probably can get playing Worms on the Amiga. She's probably like that, or anything where she can blow things up. She'd also probably enjoy Firepower as well.

Power 7, oooh, one can dream.

I tried to install Worms on my phone. But I think they broke it. It just froze after the title screen. Guess a modern version of an Amiga game is too much for a three year old phone.

That said an old version of Angry Birds, most likely predating my phone, is too much for it. They don't make phones like they used too, when you could just download a game and it worked. Actually maybe that's just the games, latest phone only or all the bugs come out, even if the game is way older.
