Using the Beaglebone Black to log boot output

While waiting for some parts to arrive for a project, I tinkered around with using a Beaglebone Black (BBB) to log the boot output of my X1000.

By adding a program (Linux) called Minicom to the BBB startup I can now connect the X1000 serial port to either its serial port using a null modem cable setup or a FTDI USB to Serial cable and null modem adaptor to its USB port.

By first booting the BBB, waiting about 30 seconds for it to complete, then starting the X1000, the serial output is logged by BBB. This can then be viewed and saved by using a VNC program like TwinVNC through the BBBs Ethernet network connection, or if you have a HDMI monitor, directly from the BBB itself.

Of course this would work on most any computer that sends its boot and debug out of a serial port, and the cost is reasonable as the BBB has many uses.

@Signal

Rigging up a microcontroler (an Auduiono, if you are that way inclined) to capture serial output to an SSD card would also be pretty simple. No need for another machine then.
