| Hi All,
In this thread I will be posting short summaries of work happening in AROS. Hopefully this will give the community more insight in what the developers are doing with their free time ;) The summary is based on the activity of AROS main repository. External projects are not included.
Disclaimer: Treat this as information on current work only. The fact that someone is working on a feature in a given week doesn't mean, he will work on it next week or that the feature will be completed. _________________ https://www.axrt.org |

Great to see the Raspberry Pi work continuing but I'll try not to get excited just yet!

Loving these Raspberry Pi 2 progress reports. Why spend $700 on a PPC amiga when you can buy a $35 ARM amiga? You guys are truly going to save our platform.
SAM 460cr: CPU CLOCK 1 Ghz 2 DDR DIMM slots, max 1 GB RAM 7 USB ports Gigabit ethernet Integrated SD card reader no built-in graphics or sound
Raspberry Pi 2: 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU 1GB RAM 4 USB ports 40 GPIO pins Full HDMI port Ethernet port Combined 3.5mm audio jack and composite video Camera interface (CSI) Display interface (DSI) Micro SD card slot VideoCore IV 3D graphics core
You may fairly argue that the Sam460 brings more than the Pi2, but is it worth 20x the price?
(edit: updated SAM specs to 460)

Should be max 2GM ram for the Sam460.
@Deadwood
Like Clebin, I'm to trying avoid getting too exited by the Raspberry PI progress, but I really am looking forward to this. If publicised well, this is a great opportunity to reignite interest in Amiga outside our community. It would definitely bring back some ex Amigans and hopefully it will create some new ones as well.

| @deadwood Thanks for the progress updates I find them interesting and will have to give AROS a go an my netbook again and try out the upgrades IntelGMA driver you list above.
@CodeSmith To be fair to the Sam460cr you should really list the PCI-express 4x lanes slot (16x mechanical connector), PCI-express 1x lane slot and PCI slot, 32 bit, 33 Mhz. As the flexibility they give for adding high quality cost effective Graphics, sound and SATA is a large part of what you are paying for with any next generation Amiga system and I am a happy sam440ep mini-itx owner.
I am also very exited about AROS on the Raspberry Pi. I already own 2 of the older model one I use to run a simple low Linux system server with a webcam (thanks to the camera module) and a second one running RiscOS.
Native AROS support for the Raspberry Pi 1 and 2 could be just the excuse I need to purchase a Raspberry Pi 2 as well
If we could use ARexx under AROS to access the GPIO on the Raspberry Pi that would allow some interesting projects, but I think I am getting a bit ahead of myself

Does AROS support ARexx? Even if the interpreter isn't supported AROS could still support ARexx IPC and hosts easily. Taking your GPIO idea, all you need is a program that adds a public port to the system, reads commands from the port and then does the hardware bashing/API tinkering.
The core of ARexx IPC is an ARexx message which is just an extended message structure containing a command string sent to a host which then replies back a result. You don't need ARexx to do that. You just need simple base code or an API to add a port, deal with messages and interpret commands. Infact I once wrote a parallel interface for ARexx, that took commands to write stuff to the parallel port, and it was simple enough that I didn't even need a seperate API to work with the messages. I called it ParaRexx. |

ARexx-Port (=Rexxmast) works. There is a REXX interpreter available (Regina) but somehow most Arexx scripts did not work on my distribution. But Arexx-Ports are working. |
