Sadeness Software / onEscapee

Does anyone know what happened to Sadeness Software after they "disappeared" - or more importantly, how one might get in touch with them?

It seems that Sadeness were the exclusive license holders for onEscapee. Other distributors are interested in acquiring the rights to sell the game, but cannot do so until they can track down Sadeness or whoever Sadeness may have sold the license to.

Any help would be appreciated.

@WilleKe

That was an excellent game...I'm proud to have been a beta-tester/translator for it.

It's been a long time since they left the Amiga scene, though. Last I heard of them they were working on some sort of racing game for the PC, but even that is a long while ago. Don't know how it went. I do have an email address for Akos Divianszky, although I don't know if it's still valid. I'll PM it to you.

@WilleKe

sadness died and the developer team of onescapee moved to pc to do onescpaee there but failed to do so....since then they developed golf(?) games on consoles/pc IIRC...

there was a huge and long story about how sadness got screwed by EPIC UK and ALIVE but sadly i cant seem to find it on the web anymore, try and search for yourself.

ps:i'd love to see a os4 friendly version of this near perfect game.

@Kay

Unfortunately, Invictus don't know what's happened to Sadeness, either - they may be the copyright holders, being the developers, but with an exclusive license floating around, it doesn't help them, much... Thanks, though.

Ah, stupid me, I mixed up Sadeness and Invictus. I assume you've already been able to dig up Kristian Phillips' (from Sadeness) old email address as well?

@Toaks

Well, a google serach for "Richard Brown" +sadeness will get a you a number of email addresses...might be worth trying some of those. I'm guessing "rich@sadeness.demon.co.uk" isn't valid any more though.

@Kay

Brilliant game but we never could get past that puzzle on the wall..

Been so long since we played it that I cant even remember how we got past the very first
"zapper".

Yeah I did try it on my A1, sadly no joy. Also tried genetic species but that never worked either

@WilleKe

Take a look here. It seems they ARE still alive and kicking (A few days ago,
they placed their OnEscapee-Windows website on the net!) now on the Win-plattform!

The only email i found is from the webdesigner on another site (go to credits)
And of course if xou want to buy it, the one from invictus: invictus@invictus.hu

They even placed the Requirements for the Amiga version, but it seems one can
only purchase PC versions.

@TheEditor
A Walkthrough is there too

@Toaks & Kay

Thanks, guys - the e-mail addresses aren't current, as you rightly guessed, but I've e-mailed Weird Science and a guy who once worked with Richard Brown and Kristian Phillips on "Foundation". Let's hope something comes of it.

@Raziel

Invictus are only selling the Windows version of the game. It's the Amiga version they say they aren't allowed to distribute.

My guess is that Invictus granted an exclusive distribution license to Sadeness - but for the Amiga version only (given that the PC version didn't exist in 1997). If that's the case, then it doesn't constitute "piracy" on the part of Invictus to sell the Windows version

@Raziel

Seems sort of futile to speculate about that when it's none of our business... And quite likely, Invictus could always rebadge their work - voila, new game.

Why do I see two messages from the future? My own reply then went in-between..

Again, that's Invictus, the game authors, not the game publishers - but thanks

@WilleKe

Hmm, maybe Invictus bought the license back before Sadness died or it
automatically fell back to them as they are the programmers?

I'm not that much into legal rights, but if Invictus is selling the game NOW
they SHOULD hold the license to do that, otherwise it would be pirating???
