See: Plane on Conveyor thread.

We will add up the points and see if the plane can or cannot lift off.

@A1200

I'm late for the discussion, but you know I voted 'no'.

@sundown

Just remember that WHATEVER the final results of the poll - that result will not affect an actual experimental outcome.

I voted no, as despite what some people said it sounds impossible.

I could be wrong... yes, it won't affect the outcome of any test, but those who guessed right; do they get a prize?

@Boot_WB
You're obviously new, as I've had that avvie for ages, except for a short stint as Inspector Gadget.

I'd say more, but the mods are unhappy with me ATM for dragging threads off topic and talking rubbish.

Mind you, since this is a thread about flying machines, the golden condor isn't THAT far off topic!

@Roquefort

OT: Yes, new to -world.net, but have been Amiga-ing for the last 15 years, with an 8-year gap after selling my A500 to pay for the deposit on my first flat, and buying an A1200 with several free A500s a few years back. Have been building up the a1200 ever since, and have my eye on an Amy (with all the usual caveats as to whether they will arrive).
Missed the Amiga1 bus by around £500 - just couldn't afford to pay that much.

You don't have to repeat that every time you post. If you don't agree take it up with mods or DaveyD but stop this in the forums.

16.5 for
11.5 against

Looking at people's posts on here and a.org and suchlike, I agree, the plane will take off.

@A1200

I voted yes, but only under the premise (menioned in the thread) that the wheels are free running and not geared/driven. People are quite right, in this instance the plane will still go forward, although will require more thrust to counter balance the friction on the wheel bearings. Technically all the belt should do is turn the wheels round.

I had a long explanation, but I don't think there is enough clear information about the model. You have to assume several things first. If there is no mesurable friction between the landing gear and the conveyor, then the thrust of the plane is going to cause the plane fly off the conveyor no matter how fast the conveyor turns. A non-takeoff senerio would assume the tires are thrusting against the conveyor for speed and lift. But it's the propeller thrusting the air instead. Now if we're moving the air in an opposite direction instead of a conveyor, then the plane still lifts off, but hangs in mid-air.

Now back to working on string theory and unified fields.

Sorry about all the edits, I can't spell tonight.
