For those lucky enough to have OS4 Update 4 they know that it feels pretty much like a final release anyway. Without going into all the current issues surrounding the system as a whole (hardware etc..), I think we are in a position to concentrate less on the OS specifics and more towards the development of software for OS4.

They've given us a cool OS, we need to make the most of it!

Sure.
Problem is, we won't get a timeline, neither from Hyperion nor from AInc,
because it's not possible to do.
Software development cannot be locked into a timeframe of any sort, there are
always reasons why it's delayed or pushed back - see hardware...

Sorry, but i fear this will be one of the threads that either go off-topic or
end up fighting over some stupid details

As Rose once pointed out to me, lets just enjoy the ride, it's the best of it,

The problem with this, as well as some other recent threads, one or two by you, is.....it's been asked, and 'answered' about as much as it's likely to be.

Well, what are you doing until OS4 final?
- There are bugfixes, as well as additional features. We keep going as we're able to. (or something to that effect, IIRC).

I think my first post on AW asked what the EyeTech/Hyperion business model was- roadmap, marketing, how were they going to make it succeed etc. Didn't really get many answers there, either, although I think I got called a troll a time or two..

Considering the appearances of the 'OS4 situation,' it unfortunately makes sense. let's see, 4.1. Will it happen if revenue can't be made, nor investors? Unlikely. Without that happening, it makes sense to get as much into 4.0 'final' as possible, doesn't it? I'm not saying 4.1 won't happen, but we really don't know. Hyperion evidently cut a deal on graphics drivers, which I'm glad to see them making some $, but even Hyperion have admitted frustration over the hardware non-availability.

Hans-Joerg and Thomas have already given us pieces of what's likely to be added, or what is on the 'wish list' in the past, if you look for it. I'd love to see an 'official roadmap,' but given the past history of vaporware and broken promises in the Amiga 'market,' would YOU really want to publish that one?

I'd love to see a response to this thread of course, i judt find it unlikely to get what you'd really like- a 'definitive roadmap' for a project whose future isn't entirely 'secure' at the moment, and IMO, highly subject to change.

I appreciate your precise and clear comment. The point (IMO) is the following:
Hyperion and Amiga Inc. must give really a proof of their good will. All we know that the Amiga platform have a great opportunity at this moment. NO TIME TO BURN OUT, again, other opportunities. The Amiga still have a strong community and there are a lot of possibilities of revenues for many companies (Ainc and Hyperion included).

I am sorry, but just look around in the industry and see how many projects are overdue. I like to take Vista as an example because it is one of the most prominent. People might argue it is a much more complex operating system than AmigaOS, but then, they do have an indefinitely higher budget than we have.

If you really think that any project management can predit how long it will take, especially if you have forces working against you, then welcome to reality.

Sure, it's a good will. But continue in this way, show the road to follow. Amiga OS is a complex operating system, a jewel (IMHO), but let us know (and the rest of the world) what are the next step. As you can see, many time the users are discouraged and a good news is always welcome. Is it possibile to know a little about your plan without reveal precious secrets?

Even the Scottish Parliament and Wembly stadium had project managers and planners and they are probably the biggest Construction screw up's in a long time and major publicity disasters.

Believe me I'm very much aware of the role of Planners and Project Management as I deal with them on a daily basis in both Construction and IT and I am aware of their failings as much as their benefits - so forgive me for saying, but I would say I am open to the real world.

To my defence I do not point the finger and never have pointed the finger at Hyperion, I admire your work, I appreciate your efforts, and anyone that has read my posts will agree I have defended and praised your works consistently and rallyed for support. My comment was purely intended as comedy highlighting the jist of the thread and the failings of some organisation that should've been in a capacity to provide us with at least an idea of the path Amiga was to take and have updated that path accordingly.
