Well, as always i´ve been messing around with some things, so here is the result of my work: http://www.debornell.dk/AmigaOne/

a little appetizer for you all:

Let me hear what you think!

Note: The system have now been testet, and is still a fully working AmigaOne, so no damage was done to it

Regards
ps. Sorry for the crappy html

@LaBodilsen

Take me with you, master

Eh eh better than my modded A1!

You should be able to overclock the beast! Remember the right vcore bacause if you don't set it correctly the machine freeze.

I overclocked mine at 1Ghz ages ago I don't remember if i use 1,74 or 1,79 vcore.

@LaBodilsen

I considered this but the cost put me off. I usually have music playing & cannot hear my A1 with it's quieter fans. Water cooled would have been nicer though.

@LaBodilsen

After having experience with watercooling my PC I had toyed with the idea of watercooling my A1 at the previous Big Bash (3) but time ran out.

I'm glad someone went ahead with it.

It's actually not that expensive to do. But you gotta get the mounting points right.

Why does watercooling make it more like a PC? I've seen classic A1200's with watercoolers, does that make them more like a PC too?

@walkero

Nah, it's the OS that makes this an Amiga.

So, is it the first water-cooled AmigaOne ever?

I hope the water is in the right place and isn't short-circuiting the miggy!

@LaBodilsen

A small word of warning for when you want to try and power this up (if you haven't already):

After looking closely at your pictures, I noticed that the water block does not appear to be sitting flat on the CPU module. In fact in one of them (the 6th one from the top of your linked web page), the corner closest to the camera is sitting directly on top of one of the components of the CPU card (one of the yellow chip capacitors) and is obviously tilted relative to the board.

I know from fitting my Zalman northbridge cooler (the tall one without a fan) and test fitting some larger ones that the CPU is flat relative to the board, so the cooler/block should appear flat relative to the board once it is seated properly.

If that block is not flat on the chip, you WILL fry that CPU when you try to run it!

Be careful, and maybe you might want to consider taking the block off and machining out some notches in the bottom for the components so it sits flat on the CPU?

I really don't want to read about ANOTHER dead A1.

Hi @LaBodilsen

-> ... a little appetizer for you all: .....

Cool, but too rich; too gourmet for my A1. I stuck to a heat sink and Sunon
fan, but installed this to keep track of temp. It's in the $40-$50 dollard US
range. It won't leak! :) How much roughly?

@DWolfman

Some CPU modules had capacitors that sat proud of the CPU, some had slightly smaller caps that left a clearance (mine was in this lucky situation). However, your point is well made, anyone fitting a larger cooler must take care that it really sits on the CPU, not something next to it.

Looks as though you have gone to some trouble there. However, I would advise against "sucking cool air in" through the radiator into the case. That dumps all the heat from the radiator inside the case, increasing the ambient temperature around the CPU, which raises its water outlet temperature, which . . . (etc). Better to use the fan to blow the hot air outside the case, allowing cool air to enter without being heated on the way in.

Nice to see someone has used proper coolant. So many "conversions" use ordinary corrosive water.

Just one complaint: the word is "tube", not "tupe".

@Fusion
Water cooling is not that expensive now a days, eg. the Bigwater 735 kit from thermal take is very cheap, and have bigger tubeing and a 400 L/h pump.

@Yak
Apparently not it seems that this german dude did it first. (dang)

@RoqueFort
As i have written on the page, i testet the water system and flow Before turning the computer on, to be sure that there is no leaks.

@DWolfman
Your quite the observant there arent you . well i´m able to get a piece of paper in between the water block and the yellow components you mention, so there should be clearence, but youre proberly somewhat right, and i should machine a little of the block, just to be absolutely sure.

@tonyw
A point well made (about the radiator and hot air). i´ll test how hot the air flow gets. shouldnt be to much as this setup is normally able to keep a AMD64 setup down to about 32 degrees cel. but I do want the best setup so i´ll look into it. thanks for the hint.

Tupe = tube (ups )

@all
Thanks for all your comments and thoughts on this.

regards
