But, seems like it's going to happen, to be built in 2008.
Some quotes not exact, but.. 'Amiga wants to move their company to Kent, providing around 250 new jobs to Kent.' (!!!)

They said over 2 to 3 years, but still the inference does warrant the three "!!!", I agree. Especially after the Cecilia photos and previous Garry Hare statements of the supposed NYC office.

| Most of the talk was actually about issues unrelated to Amiga, but there are a few slides titled "Amiga Event Center". It feels a little surreal to hear adults in suits who are outside The Community talk about things connected with The Name...

Yes, I agree. The funny part to me was the community group guy thanking Bill for the $10 million near the end of the meeting in his time at the podium. I sure hope Bill really has it to give. At least its only 2.5 million upfront or something.Last edited by fairlanefastback on 09-May-2007 at 07:26 PM.

Hello dirigent. No Bill was not speaking, I didn't get the impression he was even there. I was refering to a thank you naming Bill personally for the commitment of $10 million that was made at the podium from the representative of the Citizens Advisory Committee ( http://www.ci.kent.wa.us/eventcenter/committee.asp ) at the meeting.

Just an FYI the Amiga Center is not on the agenda for tomorrow's city council meeting. Short of someone from the public bringing it up at the part of the meeting for any desired public input it looks like there will be no new info from this meeting:

From today's meeting: Pre-drilling the foundation starts next week. They are still shooting to have the facility open in time for the start of the 2008 hockey season (fall 2008). Some of the city council members were in the state capital today as the Governor signed approval for the Public Facilities District in relation to the center.

| @fairlanefastback People have been informed, but at this stage I imagine no one wants to raise any issues, and everyone wants things to go forward on the assumption that the money and tech injection will come as per the agreement and discussions.
What remains to be seen is whether the first payment will come as scheduled, then what exactly Amiga, Inc. installs as its high-tech support for the arena, as boasted of earlier, what activities are actually carried out in the local schools, as per McEwen's presentation, what devcons actually take place, whether the 250 jobs following the company's headquarters relocation to Kent are located at Bill's house or Vince's, and so on. Should be interesting, in a low-grade drawn-out way.

The first critical article on the Kent-deal appeared in the Seattle Times:
Read here.

A visit to Amiga's Issaquah offices last week found just McEwen and one other employee in a suite of offices strewn with cardboard boxes and old computers. |

Nice spot!
Well, the article has some interesting points:
Quote:
the financial analysis firm Dun & Bradstreet estimated the company's total revenue last year at $1.6 million.
|
I just can't imagine that these money come from selling games for cellphones, PDAs etc, only!
Quote:
Whatever the company's future might hold, it currently registers barely a blip in the wireless and computing worlds
|
I guess that "blip" are we!
Quote:
Business records show Amiga legally shut down its Washington company in 2004. The new company — which McEwen said is legally separate from the old one and not obligated to pay those past debts — is registered as a Delaware corporation with headquarters in New York.
|
Man, If I ever need financial advice on "how to srew people", I surely know where to find them!
Quote:
"It doesn't make a huge lot of sense to drop $10 million on marketing with naming rights when they don't have a lot to market," Enderle said. "It seems like a company that is trying to make it look like they are larger than they are to attract investors."
|
And that's the truth my friends Last edited by Cool_amigaN on 18-May-2007 at 02:27 PM.

In any event! I hope the officers of Kent will notice it soon. That`s not a company, that`s a bunch of lairs. _________________ Sam440ep & AmigaOS4.1 @ Morex 3677 case --- (DaFreak of Liquid Skies & Moods Plateau) |

Surely this must be illegal even in US? Even more so cause the money for the 'buyout' should've gone to amiga incs. #1 creditors, namely Peck._________________ #amiga.org @ irc.synirc.net |

This shows the tenacity of our community members after the fluff pieces came out to make sure the reporters knew there were things worth looking into.
http://tinyurl.com/2mngzb
Now that the Seattle Times has done a piece its probably worth re-approaching some of the other publications who did stories on the deal as well. Perhaps they can bring to light more info.
We also may want to see if there are any newspapers in India that can perhaps help with looking into Amiga Development India and the claims made in regard to it.
The more of us that write asking for this the more likely it will be done so that we can get more info, whether good or bad, promising or not.
And I'm glad Mr. Peck was afforded another chance to tell his story as well too. Last edited by fairlanefastback on 18-May-2007 at 04:44 PM.

Sadly, its possible they knew this from the start. Kent hired lobbyists for working the state for funding. Getting the Public Facilities Distric designation was no small deal as well. Going to the state showing they already had a big sponsor and a solid tenant was in their interests and would make state funding and the PFD designation more likely.
Either way, whether they didn't do their homework and had no idea, or they knew to an extent but did not realize it would get out, well I'd bet they are pretty ####ed off right now.Last edited by fairlanefastback on 18-May-2007 at 04:34 PM.

Also can anyone in the community from Poland work on getting a Polish paper to question Prokom Software SA on their investment in Amiga, since Prokom is a publically traded company? Last edited by fairlanefastback on 18-May-2007 at 05:14 PM.

Not related to Procom, but a link I've had for ages that might interest you, particularly in light of the recent Seattle Times story mentioning unnamed big investors: here.

Preconstruction Activities Begin at Proposed Amiga Center Site
Beginning on May 24, DeWitt Construction will begin testing structural piles to confirm the necessary depth needed to support the foundation of the Amiga Center at Kent.
We expect that DeWitt Construction will begin moving heavy equipment to the site Monday, May 21. This may include construction cranes, forklifts, bobcats, container boxes, concrete pumps and welding equipment. Test pile installation will begin on Thursday, May 24 and is expected to be completed by early June.
There will be noise associated with the pre-construction work but all activities will conform to the city's noise regulations. In addition, we have worked with the contractor to limit the hours of construction. Construction cannot begin before 8:00 a.m. and should be finished by 4:30 p.m. on most days. All construction activities will take place Monday through Friday, with no weekend work permitted.
