Well, the horses mouth spoke and it is definitely not a real OS, more of an virtual environment as we all already knew. HO HUM . . .

Well, if thats all they have to show, well, what can I say but YUCK.

@meet.mrnrg

Gotta love Bill's not too convincing explanation of how AA2 is different from Java. Pretty sad really, for the Amiga to have been reduced to a mere virtual "media" engine. Maybe I'm too dense to see it, but I just can't see my way past the "so what?" factor whenever I think of AA2.

@meet.mrnrg

Hmm "so how is this different to Java again Bill?"

Oh I don't have to rewrite it for each platform! Damn I wish you could do that with Java!!!!

Congrats Bill this is certainly revolutionary!!!

It looks really fast. I don't remember Java being that fast.

Well, of course we're all deceived by this so-called AmigaOS5-AmigaAnywhere2, but remember that this company is struggling to survive and needs to make money. They just couldn't seat quietly until OS4 was released... It took a hell of a time to make OS4.

Now if Hyperion/AmigaInc could settle their problems in a peacefull way we could all move further and hope for a true new Amiga with our beloved OS...

Ha ha, funny.

You must not be a Java developer.

Java does not have the same environment for each platform. You have J2ME/MIDP for mobile phones, and J2SE for desktop (and there are several other profiles as well). And even if you only consider J2ME/MIDP devices, there is still not consistency across manufacturers, etc, which is why products like J2ME Polish were born. I think what Bill was trying to say is that AA2 does not have different APIs for different device categories, which does set it apart from Java.

Gabriel

@meet.mrnrg

Either Bill is completely clueless or he's a liar...

"We took the Amiga, we virtualized the operating system..."

Ahem, there's not a single line of code from an Amiga in there.

Maybe what he really meant was...

"We took (and raped) the Amiga name, and we're working hard on destroying the operating system too"

He then goes on saying...

"What this is, is a media engine..."

Very impressive! I'm sure that's going to draw a lot if interest

Even so, should any potential customer look into AA(2), chances are they'd eventually stumble upon http://www.amigasdk.com/overview.html and I let you guess how seriously they'll still take AInc after noticing the links at the bottom of their pages...

Whois brings up nothing for the owner of this domain, so I wonder where it traces back to. I'm surprised Amiga Inc hasn't had it shut down, as it is not owned by them.

Although, maybe that's how they keeping the company afloat.......

Slightly clearer original Youtube version:

I am wondering if comparisons to Quicktime/Flash/Sliverlight might be more appropriate? Otherwise why not port Quake and Firefox to demo?

Nice video (but without useable informations...). I saw real enthusiasm in the eyes of Bill McEwen. He has soul of an amigan, but that doesn´t assure his credibility.

“In 1997, unfortunately Amiga was acquired by Escom, then Gateway, and then us …”

LOL, "unfortunately" is the correct word. I think most people would say they wish someone else had aquired Amiga.

I would like to see the whole demo showed on the video before giving any comment.

@Beamish2040

Sounds like he started to say Amiga went bankrupt then quickly changed that to being aquired by Escom.

Have you used AA2? Is version 2 a complete rewrite of modified AA - Tao code?

Thanks,

True, but it is interesting how the sentence finally came out. I guess at heart I'm not a fan of McEwen and I heard what I wanted to hear.
